And, finally, the draft minutes for the May 26, 2026, Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC).

In the LAKE videos of the following month’s June 29, 2026, GLPC meeting, Gretchen Quarterman noted, “The approval of the minutes was tabled until next meeting because not all commissioners had received, or reviewed the minutes.”

So maybe the May minutes will get approved in July.

These draft minutes are on the LAKE website, with images of each page below.

Update 2026-07-09: Draft Minutes: Lowndes County small subdivision and communications tower, Valdosta doublewide and contractor office @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Update 2026-07-08: Work Session Monday or Tuesday? @ LCC 2026-07-14.

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commissioners (GLPC) approved everything unanimously, except for three split votes: on the proposed communications tower in Langdale Park (see below), on a CUP for a mobile home in a single-family residential zoning district in Valdosta (see below), and on setback variances at Exit 29 in Hahira (see below).

They heard all the Dasher cases together, then voted on them one by one.

For Lowndes County case 7. REZ-2026-14 6808 Wisenbaker Road

there was quite a bit of discussion about use of a dirt road but applicant said that they never used the dirt road because there are two paved access lanes to the parcel.

Regarding 8. TWR-2026-02 Bermuda Run, 3781 North Valdosta Road

I was the only speaker in opposition. My main point was that county staff had not supplied information in a timely manner so that the public, or even the Planning Commissioners, would have adequate time to consider the evidence. Plus according to conformance with the ULDC, which is what staff said the Commissioners were supposed to be evaluating, the tower does not fit in Langdale Park. For my points, see Packet: Propagation maps for Verizon tower in Langdale Park @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

http://www.l-a-k-e.org/blog/?p=25853

They did recommend approval, but with a split vote, 5 to 2.

Regarding 9. CU-2026-05 Request by Tierra Inman for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the placement of a mobile home in a Single-family Residential (R-6) zoning district

Gretchen Quarterman spoke in favor, in addition to the applicant. Gretchen also noted: Continue reading

Update 2026-07-04: Packet: Propagation maps for Verizon tower in Langdale Park @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

You can see in these packet materials how the four Dasher items are related, in the agenda for the Monday, June 29, 2026, Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC).

[Packet: 4 Dasher @ GLPC 2026-06-29, All related, On US 41 S]

It took a while for them to arrive, since it was not obvious who was the contact or how to contact them. Now that that’s sorted, next time should be easier.

These GLPC board packet materials, received in response to a LAKE open records request, are on the LAKE website. Images of each page are below.

Also, after the GLPC meeting, Dasher put these materials on its own city webs ite. Now if they’ll just do that before the meeting, and if Lowndes County, Valdosta, Hahira, etc., will do the same, nobody will have to play this open records request game.

Update 2026-06-28: Packet: 2 Valdosta, 1 Hahira @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Update 2026-06-27: WWALS blog post Verizon tower in Langdale Park? @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Verizon Wireless wants to put a communications tower in Langdale Park, a stone’s throw from the main kiosk, at 30.885908, -83.320453.

The rezoning sign is not in Langdale Park: it’s on the private property on Hyta Mederer Road, at 30.8870644, -83.3173206.

The FAA NOTICE CRITERA say it’s in Remerton.

The packet materials for TWR-2026-02 Bermuda Run say its address is 3781 North Valdosta Road, which is misleading at best.

Also:

The decision to be made by the Board of Commissioners is not a zoning decision. It is a quasi-judicial decision whether the standards for a telecommunications tower in Section 5.05.05 of the ULDC are met.

The TRC analyzed the request, the standards set forth in Section 5.05.00 (attached), and Section 10.02.00 of the ULDC, and noted that Continue reading

Update 2026-06-07: Packet: Appointments to 3 Boards, 1 small subdivision, Old US 41 N widening, Alcohol, Sewage, insurance, bonds, and roads @ LCC 2026-06-08.

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commissioners unanimously recommended approval of all the cases, except the communications tower, which was withdrawn by applicant.

They spent by far the most time (17 and a half minutes) on 5. CU-2026-03 Request by Latoyona Speed and San Antonio Graham for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for placement of a mobile home in a Single-Family Residential (R-6) zoning district. They even suggested orienting the doublewide parallel with the street, until they realized that would leave only half a foot setback on each end.

Packet: Lowndes County small subdivision and communications tower, Valdosta doublewide and contractor office @ GLPC 2026-05-25

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) will meet Tuesday instead of its usual Monday, because of the Memorial Day Holiday.

Valdosta City staff recommend denial of a request to put a doublewide mobile home on N Barack Obama Boulevard because it might gasp! be unsightly. Nevermind the floor plan looks more substantial than many a stick-built house.

Lowndes County staff are fine with a tiny subdivision on US 41 S just north of the planned Lake Park Fire Station.

We don’t know their take on a communications tower near Meetinghouse Creek, upstream from the Little River west of Hahira, because they did not send that part of the board packet materials.

Here is the agenda.

The board packet materials, received from Lowndes County in response to a LAKE open records request, are on the LAKE website. Except for the materials they did not send for TWR-2026-01 Salem Church Communication Facility, Old Valdosta Road N., Hahira, GA ~25ac, Parcel 0008-010, and the minutes of the previous GLPC meeting. For the tower I’ve inserted a Lowndes County Tax Assessors map.

The Lowndes County Commission breezed through approving everything unanimously two weeks ago.

There was some further discussion in Reports about the county taking over management of the Moody AFB golf course and some other items.

[Collage @ LCC 25 April 2023]
Collage @ LCC 25 April 2023

Then in Citizens Willing to Be Heard, Veterinarian Dr. Amanda Hall spoke about changes in state law regarding animal control, including about what counts as a breeder. And it is now unlawful to tether animals during inclement weather or mental distress, but that is not being enforced. She recommended Lowndes County revise its local animal control ordinance to be in line with the noise ordinance.

She recently learned the county was budgeting $7 million for a new animal shelter. She said there was much lower hanging fruit than that, such as updating the ordinance to use ideas that work elsewhere.

Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item, with a few notes by Gretchen Quarterman, followed by a LAKE video playlist.

Surprise housing!

Two weeks ago, the longest regular business item at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session was 6.a. FY2024 Juvenile Justice Incentive Grant, mostly because Judge Council wanted to mention a first quarter success rate of 86%, and a second quarter success rate of 79%.

Also taking more than a minute were 6.b. Quiet Pines Golf Course Agreement for Lowndes County to operate that course for Moody AFB, and the alcohol license for Twin Lakes Club & Grill, for which they went through various scenarios requiring a new license.

[Collage @ LCC 24 April 2023]

Unscheduled under 7. Reports was a seven-minute surprise report on affordable housing. Mark Stalvey from the Housing Authority and Rhett Holmes from IDP Properties (the low income housing tax credit developer) gave a presentation on a new development at the corner of South Troupe Street and Griffin Ave. They are working on a phase two and asked for financial support in the form of $1,000,000 low interest loans. Similar to Freedom Heights on Bemiss Road which is both market rate and rent controlled units.

Update 2023-05-08: Videos: Juveniles, Golf Course, Subdivision infrastructure, solid waste, and alcohol @ LCC Work 2023-04-24.

Just after I posted the agenda and mentioned that Lowndes County was past the three days limit state law requires for a response (and I also sent them an email reminder), the county sent the board packet.

The board packet is on the LAKE website.

Update 2023-04-23: Packet: Alcohol, Juveniles, Golf Course, Subdivision infrastructure, and solid waste @ LCC 2023-04-24.

Here’s a rare Lowndes County Commission session where the total amount of taxpayers dollars being considered to spend is zero.

Cost What
$368,179.20 FY2024 Juvenile Justice Incentive Grant
-$368,179.20 Reimbursed 100% by CJCC
$0.00Total

That of course ignores future road and utility maintenance costs for Quarterman Estates Subdivision Phase 4, Section 1 and Grove Pointe Subdivision Phase 5, Section 3, plus whatever it will cost for the county to run the Quiet Pines Golf Course for Moody AFB. Lowndes County already operates Moody AFB’s wastewater treatment plant.
