Flatlanders Arts & Crafts Show

The Flatlanders Arts & Crafts Show features a variety of antiques,
collectibles, food and beverages. It is one of the oldest annual
arts and crafts shows, and is held each Labor Day weekend at the
Threatte Center, just inside the city limits of Lakeland, Georgia.

Hahira Honeybee Breakfast

Gretchen reports it was congenial but poorly attended, presumably
because there are no local political races undecided that affect Hahira:
both County Commission Districts 2 and 5 are already done,
and there’s no county Chairman or Sheriff race, and no Hahira city races
this year.
The only Hahira City Council member there was Terry Benjamin,
although Police Chief Terry Davis and City Manager Jonathan Sumner were there,
plus Wayne Bullard, who according to
Hahira’s website is still Mayor.

Hahira Honeybee Festival

Once again time for the

Hahira Honeybee Festival, 29 September through 4 October 2014.
Starting this morning with the

“Kick-Off Breakfast 7-9 a.m. Community Center- Randall St. Everyone Welcome”


This festival is not run by the City of Hahira, rather by

Hahira Honeybee Festival, Inc.,
registered agent Melba Locher of Shiloh Road,
Helen Petitjean Secretary,
Melba Locher CFO,
Carol Jacobs CEO,
according to the Georgia Secretary of State.

According to the Festival’s

history page:

The Hahira Honeybee Festival was st
arted in 1981 by Mamie Sorrell
and Adeline Landrum. These two ladies loved Hahira and had a vision
“to liven up city” with a weekend of Arts & crafts , Entertainment,
and a parade. The weekend festival has grown into a week long
extravaganza. The festival is now known as one of the best in the
Southeast. The parade is touted as the best in South Georgia. It has

The 64th Annual Ham and Eggs show is this week. The only one left in Georgia, it is not to be missed.

was they called up former
County Engineer Charlie Clark to explain the Utility Director’s
comment about making a profit on wastewater to Lake Park Elementary School.
Yes,

the SPLOST VII Resolution is to put it on the ballot in November,
“to reimpose the tax”.
So much for those

town halls that never happened.
Yep, it’s Mac McCall for

reappointment to ZBOA.

No Proclamation this morning, so
it could still be for

South Georgia Pride
like

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle refused to proclaim last year.
And they vote tomorrow night at 5:30 PM.

SPLOST VII Resolution and mystery proclamation and appointment @ LCC 2013-09-09

Presumably the SPLOST VII Resolution is to put it on the ballot in November.
So much for those

town halls that never happened.
I’m guessing the ZBOA appointment is for the finally-expired term
of Dave Kirk;
they appointed

John “Mac” McCall last December to the unexpired part of Kirk’s term,
so McCall would be the odds-on reappointment.


Maybe the Proclamation is for

South Georgia Pride
like

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle refused to proclaim last year.
Why do we have to guess what all those items are for, anyway?
Why don’t they just make the agenda items descriptive,
or, even better,

link the board packet items in with the agenda?
The two
For Consideration
items are more intelligible, but would still make more sense
with those board packet materials.

So popular it’s every Saturday and a street is closed: Valdosta Farm Days

Demand has ramped up in only a few years so that already Valdosta Farm Days has
expanded its days and pedestrianized a street.

City of Valdosta PR 15 May 2013,

City Announces Road Closure for Downtown Valdosta Farm Days,


Valley Street
In anticipation of the large number of vendors expected for the
Downtown Valdosta Farm Days this Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1
p.m., the City of Valdosta is announcing an expected road closure to
help citizens plan their travel downtown.

Valley Street will be closed between N. Ashley and N. Patterson
Streets, from 7 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. Adequate traffic
safety measures will be in place to alert the traveling public, as
the closure will prohibit traffic traveling east and west on Valley
Street during this time.



Farm Days takes place on the sidewalks around the historic
courthouse in downtown Valdosta, on the first and third Saturday of
every month, rain or shine, through the end of October. By popular
demand, the market will take place every Saturday during the month
of June.

Citizens are invited to enjoy the activities associated with the
Downtown Valdosta Farm Days. For more information about Main Street
events, contact the Main Street office at (229) 259-3577. For
information about street closures, call the Engineering Department
at (229) 259-3530.

There’s no mention of any of this on the
Lowndes County Commission website.
