Videos: airport appointment, water, sewer, alcohol, and surplus right of way @ LCC 2014-05-12

They vote tomorrow evening on paying for an emergency road fix
and several discrepencies.
James Road

dropped 10 inches in 48 hours
in front of Westside Elementary School,
due to faulty road construction in 2008.
Also due to that same hasty 2008 James Road widening and realignment
for the

James Road second mall and massive subdivision mega-project

that never happened,
there is

Excess Right of Way on James Rd & Riverside Dr.

that the County Engineer wants to quit claim and give back to the neighboring
landowners.
In other discrepencies, MIDS, Inc. found three in its contract of last year
and wants a

Transportation Service Contract Addendum

to fix the work the county didn’t check.
A Commissioner wanted to know why

the three bids for a lift station pump varied so much
.

Airport Authority Chairman Steve Everett wants to be

reappointed for another four-year term
.
The 911 center has

surplus items
out back it wants to sell off.
County staff want to abandon

Old Statenville Road SE

because they say only seven cars a day use it and there are no houses on it.
Nobody had any questions about the

a beer license
.

Here’s
the agenda
.

Airport Authority appointment, water, sewer, alcohol, and surplus right of way @ LCC 2014-05-12

If anybody knew about upcoming appointments, like this one
to the

Valdosta-Lowndes County Airport Authority
, they might want to apply,
or suggest a likely applicant.
Which

surplus items
?
Which
Transportation Service
needs a

Contract Addendum
?
Why is the Commission considering abandoning

Old Statenville Road SE

and

Excess Right of Way on James Rd & Riverside Dr.
?

Does this mean the infamous 2007

James Road second mall and massive subdivision mega-project

is finally really dead and gone?
Or something else?
Is it comforting to know the only thing that is clear on your
Lowndes County Commission’s agenda for tomorrow morning is

a beer license
?

Here’s
the agenda

One ULDC variance @ ZBOA 2014-05-06 @ ZBOA 2014-05-06

You can see in this video that ZBOA granted the one
Lowndes County
ULDC variance, for

lot access and road frontage
.

Even though according to the

Lowndes County Tax Assessors’ maps
,
3041 Touchton Road doesn’t actually touch Touchton Road,
or any other road, it does have a 25 foot easement
through adjoining property.
The owner wants to record a survey for the property,
and perhaps to sell it.
The question was whether that existing easement could be used
instead of the usual 60 foot easement.

This was one of the briefest ZBOA meetings (14 minutes, of which two and a half
were introductory material, since there was only
one case, and it was quick to decide.
And ZBOA does actually decide, unlike the Planning Commission,
which only recommends.

the agenda

Defibrilators from Homeland Security @ LCC 2014-04-07

The

KLVB presentation
told us up to three states dump in
the Pecan Row Landfill in Lowndes County,
for which the county gets some unspecified amount of tipping fees,
which go to fund KLVB.
An appointment to
KLVB was added to the agenda,
although nobody deigned to reveal who was “that individual that has
requested to serve on that board”.
The

Homeland Security grant application
turned out to be for defibrillators.

Here’s
the agenda
, with a few annotations and links to the videos.

On the behalf of the Commission and Citizens of Lowndes County –Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter to FERC about the Sabal Trail methane pipeline

These are the fourteen items he promised

two weeks ago
at the SpectraBusters panel at VSU:

Sabal Trail will be expected to adhere and honor all Lowndes County Ordinances –Bill E Slaughter, JR to FERC
, 10 April 2014.
I thank Chairman Slaughter for making that statement to FERC.

Despite his apparent refusal to speak on behalf of all the citizens
of the county

after the 24 February 2014 Commission meeting
,
he did actually say his ecomment to FERC was
“on the behalf of the Commission and Citizens of Lowndes County”,
and that he expects Sabal Trail to follow all Lowndes County ordinances,

Videos: Garbage falling off trucks @ LCC 2014-03-25

If the County Commission hadn’t privatized garbage collection,
Frenchie could have registered his complaint about

garbage falling off trucks

through the new

turnkey government website service
once it’s online.
No mention of the

annexation request by the City of Hahira
from the Work Session.

Commissioner Powell
noted the three SPLOST VII projects were

“a direct reinvestment into the community of those funds”
.
The

road resurfacing of four roads

is actually mostly from a GDOT LMIG grant,
but the other three,
shoulder paving on

Val Del Road

and

Boring Pond Road

and a

bridge replacement on Cat Creek Road

are all from SPLOST VII funds.
Plus

some trucks for Animal Control
and

tablets for the Fire Department
,
an

alcohol license
, and some alphabet-soup agreements,
one of which turned out to be for

a grant for a victim advocate position
in the Solicitor General’s office.

Here’s

the agenda

Videos: Mostly Paving and Bridges @ LCC 2014-03-24

Yesterday morning they discussed a

turnkey government website service
.
And an

annexation request by the City of Hahira
.
And they may actually be serious about coming into the 21st century with

online county services
.

Turns out the

road resurfacing of four roads

is actually mostly from a GDOT LMIG grant,

are all from SPLOST VII funds.

CSX Georgia Rail Meeting – April 17

gdot-rail.jpg
Update 12:20 PM 25 March 2014: “Please note this meeting is not just about CSX, but all railroads in Georgia.” –Corey Hull

I found this on Facebook at the MPO.

Y’all come and give an opinion about rail in Georgia.

–gretchen

The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun work on the 2014 Georgia State Rail Plan. The Plan will serve as a statewide long-range rail planning document for passenger and freight service, providing a vision for rail throughout the state and housing comprehensive industry data.

Components of the Plan will include Continue reading

Animals, Alcohol, Alphabet Soup, Paving, Bridges, and Fire @ LCC 2014-03-24

Got to spend those SPLOST dollars widening roads and bridges
to promote development farther out in the country!
Plus some trucks for Animal Control and tablets for the Fire Department,
an alcohol license, and some alphabet-soup agreements.
It may be healthy as food, but I wonder if opaque acronyms
unexplained in the agenda is good for local government.

the agenda
