Videos: Valdosta annexation and manufacturing; Lowndes County commercial and subdivision rezonings @ GLPC 2024-11-25

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commission recommended approval of
a Valdosta annexation and rezoning on Old Statenville Road for the Development Authority,
a commerciaal rezoning on Inner Perimeter Road for U-Haul,
and a subdivision on Thunderbowl Road.

They voted 7:0 against recommending approval for a
commercial rezoning on Old US 41 N.

The VLDA case was already decided

Thursday by the Valdosta City Council:
they approved it.

The other cases are before the Lowndes County Commission

Monday morning to be voted on Tuesday evening.

Packet: Insurance cancellation, annexation and rezoning for Development Authority, final bond resolution for water and wastewater, and $679,832.40 for tasers @ VCC 2024-12-05

The board packet has a couple of pages on why city staff want to cancel the insurance broker contract,
while the broker is posting his version on his
ValdostaFirst facebook group.

Valdosta Police Department wants $679,832.40 for Conducted Electrical Weapons (CEW), which say taser on the side.

I’m told this is the final resolution required before issuing the

$67 million bonds
for water and wastewater projects.

Actually, not contentious: the planners and applicants spoke for a long time.
Nobody spoke against the rezoning requests, and the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) voted unanimously to recommend approval of all of them,
last month on September 26, 2022.

the only sizeable rezoning they will discuss will be

REZ-2022-16 Townes at 4443, 4443 Bemiss Road,
and that one is next to another subdivision, on the county’s main northside drag.

It will be interesting to see how this Valdosta rezoning goes, after recent shenanigans involving a Lowndes County halfway house rezoning:

The Valdosta Lowndes County Development Authority (VLCDA) wants to
rezone
and
annex into Valdosta
an acres at 1349 Old Statenville Road,

Sewage spill not Valdosta’s fault this time

Not every spill is the city’s fault.

City of Valdosta PR, VDT, 18 February 2015,

Sewage spilled into waterway,



VALDOSTA — An estimated 375 gallons of sewage dumped into a
tributary of Dukes Bay Canal Monday, according to city officials.

A spokesperson for the city said the wastewater spill near Old
Statenville Road and Arlington Ave. was the result of a manhole
overflow at the 1100 Block of Old Statenville Road around 11 a.m.
Monday.
