Celebrate the leadership that the BOEs have shown. —Karen Noll

Unanimous: LCBOE votes to oppose school consolidation. -jsq



This is truly a time for educators, and the families of students in our
communities’ schools to celebrate the leadership that the BOEs have shown.

That said, I would like to commend the LCBOE on the strength of
their resolution.
They not only state clearly that consolidating the schools
would not increase in academic achievement, but a large tax increase
would be expected. Another point that LCBOE included in their resolution
is that such a referendum should only be brought by citizens, families,
or educators.



Jame Wright also made this point in

his statement to city council last week.
Without the support of the educators involved, and
the families impacted, such a referendum question is just a big buck
political agenda on the ballot.

This town is still small enough to call this spade – money trying to
drive the education bus into the ditch.

Let me just say this-

NOT WITH MY KIDS’ EDUCATION, YOU DON’T!!!

Two south Georgia School systems don’t want to consolidate.

Hm, they noticed

yesterday’s VBOE meeting
with its
statement
and

today’s LCBOE meeting
with its

resolution.



Almost as interesting is what they don’t mention.
CUEE is not named; it’s just “a citizen group”.
And there’s no mention that both meetings were full of FVCS people
opposing consolidation, and not one single CUEE member willing to
speak up for it.
Less than two months ago, both WALB and WCTV named both groups
and

used words like “Talks Heat Up” (WALB) and “Showdown” (WCTV).
What’s changed, TV media?

The public is invited to attend.

The Helping Your Child Succeed lunch-n-learn workshop was held Friday, June 17.

The workshop was created to help reach parents in the workplace, and
to teach parents about statistics in dropout rates, and the education
system as a whole.

Lowndes County is disaster area —Gov. Deal

Climate change makes Lowndes County a disaster area.

Deal requests disaster designation for Lowndes County:



Gov. Deal sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack
asking that 22 Georgia counties be declared disaster areas because of
Georgia’s ongoing drought.

Lowndes County was on that list of 22 counties that Deal wants to be
declared as disaster areas.

Tornado warning: you would have heard this on NOAA Weather Radio

This is what NOAA Weather Radio would tell you right now.
I know this stuff because a friend called and told me to check on the Internet.
But people who can’t afford $21 for a radio don’t have Internet connections;
some don’t have telephones.
When there’s severe weather frequently telephones don’t work, either.

“We welcome solar power to the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County”



After all the

protesters, police, and press,
representatives of

VLCIA,

Sterling Planet,

Hannah Solar,

Georgia Power,
and the

City of Valdosta
did finally break ground for

the Wiregrass Solar power plant.
I asked Col. Ricketts for a shovel, but he just snorted.

Georgia Power at Wiregrass Solar groundbreaking, 21 Feb 2011



It was good to see

Georgia Power assisting at the groundbreaking of the

Wiregrass Solar LLC plant, instead of just studying and demonstrating.
The speaker equated solar, biomass, and nuclear.
Hm, what’s that over their heads?
Why, biomass doesn’t seem to be as popular as solar!
I didn’t catch the speaker’s name, but he also recognized
Robbie Hastings, detail manager in Valdosta.
