Solar Baxley City Hall



Baxley City Hall has solar panels, in Appling County, home to nuclear Plant Hatch.
Why?
The solar installation will
generate most during the most expensive electrical power times of the day;
it will pay for itself in ten years,
and it’s lower power bills from then on.
Baxley City Council approved the project unanimously in December,
to be paid for out of reserves with no financing,
and the solar system is already installed and working.
Any local city or county hereabouts could do the same thing.

Another rat at Fukushima: cooling down third time in five weeks

It doesn’t take a tsunami to take down Fukushima: rats can do it repeatedly.

Last month, a 29-hour power supply halt affecting nine facilities,
including four spent fuel pool cooling systems, was caused by a rat
touching exposed wires in a temporary switchboard, triggering a
circuit breaker.

In early April, the No.3 unit’s spent fuel pool cooling system
stopped, after workers appeared to have had inadvertently caused a
power outage when they were trying to install a net to keep small
animals from crawling into the reactor building. (Reporting by Risa

Apparently that net didn’t work.
Should we trust our safety to nuclear plants that can be shut down by rats?

we should phase them all out while
former Indian Atomic Energy Regulatory Board Chair Gopalakrishnan says the reactors currently building in India, already three years behind schedule and now found to incorporate numerous defects and deficiencies amid gross lack of transparency, must be stopped.
We know a better way:
solar and wind power.
Let’s get on with that.

Mr. Bowers’ visit and his comments are almost comical, particularly his
quote that “the government is stimulating for renewables to give them a
running chance but, when you remove them, the question is can they run
on their own two feet?”



A good question! Fact is that neither coal nor nuclear would be able to
“run on their two own feet” if it wasn’t for the large subsidies both have
received for decades. Now these are nicely hidden subsidies so that the
average consumer thinks he is getting a bargain, without realizing that it
is us, the consumers, who have actually paid for this “inexpensive rate”.

Georgia Power forges ahead with expensive nukes

Would you buy two new nukes from a company that ran over budget by a factor of 13 last time it built nuclear reactors at the same site? When one of those reactors got shut down for days
a couple mnths ago? When another reactor even closer to us was discovered leaking radioactivity into our aquifer?
A company that got the state to agree it could keep all its profit and socialize any cost overruns by passing them on to you, the customers? Well, Georgia Power CEO Paul Bowers thinks you should trust such a company to build nukes for gapower’s profit you!
