No item took even two minutes, although many departments spoke, at the Lowndes County Commission Regular Session, Monday, January 9, 2023. The whole thing took eight minutes.
I wonder what’s in these ULDC Updates, when will the public get to see them, and why was a contractor necessary to write them? Also, how much did that contract cost?
The Regular Session was later that same day; LAKE videos of that one will also follow.
Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item of the Work Session, with some notes by Gretchen Quarterman, followed by a LAKE video playlist. See also the agenda and board packet.
5.a. Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority
I arrived ever so slightly late and missed call to order and minutes for approval. The tourism board always includes the Wild Adventures General Manager so I don’t know why they even bother pretending there is an opportunity for others to apply. Well, actually, I suppose if there were other large-ish industries that generated local tourism, that the board might consider designating that the seat be filled by one of the GMs.
5.b. South Georgia Regional Library (SGRL) Board
5.c. Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority
I’m not exactly sure why the county would choose to appoint someone who is already on the authority (appointed by the City of Valdosta). For many boards and authorities, Valdosta has no requirement that their appointees live in the city. I suppose though that if the county likes the work that the person does, this is one way to make sure they get to continue.
6.a. Patrol Car Laptop Lease
6.b. Extension of Agreement for ULDC Updates
Is there a working document that the public can see and comment on? Or will there just be a “public telling” at the end?
6.c. Adopt Resolution Accepting Infrastructure for Cattle Crossing Subdivision
I’m going to go with there probably is (are?) no cattle at Cattle Crossing.
6.d. Approval of SG’s VOCA Continuation Grant Award for 2022-2023
6.e. Stop Loss Insurance Coverage through HM Insurance Group
7. Reports – County Manager 9. Meeting Adjournment
Reports held for evening session.
Reminder that evening session is same evening rather than next day.
