The agenda still says 8:30 AM Monday morning for the Work Session, and they have only half an hour left to change it and still comply with state law.
In case anybody has forgotten Moody AFB is by far the biggest employer in these parts, the county wants to hire for $36,000 a year a pair of lobbyists to the Air Force: Parker and Lucy Greene, “to provide consulting services on behalf of Lowndes County to enhance relationships with the Air Force and Department of Defence regarding Moody AFB.”
Kari L. Sands (R.I.P.), VDT, 22 June 2007, Parker Greene honored with award,
Parker Greene was the original chairman of military affairs for the Lowndes-Valdosta Chamber of Commerce in the early 1970s, then served as executive director of the Moody Support Committee beginning in 1991. He has been credited with making Moody “BRAC-proof,” a reference to the Base Realignment and Closure committee. He also worked for more than 10 years with the Georgia Department of Transportation to ensure the improvement of Bemiss Road, the main thoroughfare into and out of Moody.
“Staff has received a request” to rename Val Tech Road to be Wiregrass Technical College Road. Would it hurt them to say where the request came from?
Kimberly Hobbs wants to be reappointed to Keep Lowndes Valdosta Beautiful (KLVB), and Molly Stoltz has resigned from her seat that expires next year, with no replacement candidates named.
Patricia Iverson wants to be reappointed to the Lowndes County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Board, and Dr. Martha Giddings has resigned from a seat expiring in 2020, with no candidates indicated.
About the Lowndes County Library Board:
The appointments of Barry Barr, Ray Devery, Sam Allen, Penelope Schmidt, and Matthew Lawrence to the Lowndes County Library Board have expired. The Board of Trustees of SGRL recommends all members be reappointed with the exception of Mrs. Schmidt. Mrs. Schmidt does not wish to be reappointed. The board also recommends Mr. Gene Toffolo for a previously opened seat. Mr. Gary Wisenbaker personally submitted a request to be considered for any vacant seats.
Sam Allen is also Chair of the Hospital Board, as a City of Valdosta appointtee.
The appointments for John Sineath and Mike Vickery to the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals have expired. Mr. Sineath’s, General Contractor appointment is a rotating appointment, which means it is now the City of Valdosta’s turn to appoint someone to the position. Mr. Mike Vickery fills the role of a plumbing industry member on the board.
As usual, the county didn’t provide application sheets for any of the candidates, nor did they announce to the public that any of these board slots were up for appointment. If you look on lowndescounty.com under Community, then Boards and Commissions, they do at least now provide a sentence on what each board does, and a link to a page with a list of members and term expiration dates, in most cases with a link at the bottom to an application form. That’s the application the Commission does not show the public before they make appointments.
