Videos: 2 Lowndes County developments, Comprehensive Plan Update @ GLPC 2016-06-27

The Comprehensive Plan Update was the Other Business. Staff mentioned the many update workshops and said the Planning Commission could put it back on their agenda after the County Commission vote of the next day.

The REZ-2016-12 Bemiss Road Roy Rhodes rezoning is apparently some sort of science center for busing in home schoolers. “Coding? What’s Coding?” said Commissioner Ted Raker.

REZ-2016-13 Evelyn Lund 4701 Knights Ferry Road is a wedding venue.

Here are links to each of the LAKE videos of this June 27th 2016 GLPC meeeting, followed by a video playlist. See also the agenda.

Video. County Planner Jason Davenport recited a number of questions from the GLPC Work Session and answers he got from the applicants. It involves school buses. Applicant spoke for. Apparently it’s some sort of science center for home schoolers. Details may be clearer in the board packet that the public didn’t get to see. However, the applicant did explain to Commissioner Ted Raker that coding is computer programming. Commissioner Celine Gladwin had more substantive questions about experience, hours, parking, etc. Nobody spoke against. Ted Raker moved to approve, with no conditions. Didn’t catch who seconded. They all voted yes.

  • 4. REZ-2016-13 Evelyn Lund 4701 Knights Ferry Road, 4. REZ-2016-13 Evelyn Lund 4701 Knights Ferry Road,

Video. County Planner Jason Davenport said they didn’t have the site plan changes ready, and he recommended tabling until July 25th GLPC meeting, which is the day before the County Commission decision on July 26th. He didn’t say that since GLPC meets in the evening, the County Commission Work Session of the morning of July 25th would be before the GLPC meeting later that same day.

Applicant Mr. Lund spoke for. He said Highgrove Farm “has always been and always will be” developed in “the entire knowledge of” the neighbors and surrounding community. There were some questions about future expansion. Applicant said they’re old and only plan to host one wedding per week; if their successors want to do more, they can come back and reapply. There was actually some discussion of impervious surface and buffers. Applicant said they were “very adamant” not to overbuild.

Nobody spoke against. Commissioner Tommy Willis moved to tabled it until next meeting. They approved unanimously.

  • Other Business – Meeting Adjournment Other Business - Meeting Adjournment

Video. County Planner Jason Davenport said they were about 60 days away from a final draft of the Comprehensive Plan. City Planner Matt Martin noted the previous meetings, the County Commission meeting of the following evening, and various upcoming meetings. Davenport noted each local government (the county and the five cities) had to hold each its own public hearing. The Planning Commission held no vote at this meeting.
