Since I’m familiar with that location as the old closed pawn shop, I called VLCIA’s new PR person, Meghan Duke, for clarification. I congratulated her on her recent appointment, and repeated what I’ve been saying for some time now, that VLCIA does many good things most people don’t know about and with some PR maybe we would. She said she was working on educating the public.
Notice: The Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority Regular Meeting has been rescheduled for the month of February. The meeting date will be Thursday, February 23, 2011, 2:00 P.M. at 101 N Ashley Street.
Notice of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority Board Retreat, Thursday, February 23, 2012, 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM at 101 N Ashley Street.
About the meeting location, she told me it’s the new CJB Industries building. They’re locating some additional offices downtown, and they’re providing access for the Industrial Authority for the meetings Thursday. The facilitated board retreat will be there in the morning. Since they’re already going to be there, they’re holding the board meeting in the same location.
About the retreat, I asked Ms. Duke whether it was an open meeting. She said she didn’t know, because she wasn’t organizing it and hadn’t seen the agenda. I asked whether, since it was a meeting by a tax-funded governmental body, unless it was all in executive session, wouldn’t it be an open meeting? She said she didn’t know. I asked who was organizing the meeting. She said Andrea Schruijer. I’m waiting for Ms. Schruijer’s call back for clarification.
Update 5PM 23 Feb 2012: Here’s her response.
