Occupy Valdosta General Assembly today

Noon until 3PM today, in Drexel Park, Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, Occupy Valdosta will be having a General Assembly. This is the slow, messy, talkative, oddly organized, flashy-fingered decision-making forum descended from the direct democracy of ancient Athens. The General Assembly method is why Occupy Wall Street is two months old instead of being a one-shot one-day march.

Occupy Atlanta has published a General Assembly Guide which includes this Occupy Atlanta Pledge and Guidelines derived from Occupy Wall Street:

  • We unequivocally oppose transphobia and homophobia. We are in solidarity with the LGBTQ community. We unequivocally oppose sexism, racism, ableism and religious intolerance.
  • Absolute respect.
  • We recognize and embrace the equality of our diversity as Atlantans.
  • We resist learned prejudices.
  • We share burdens by taking initiatives to fill roles and relieve comrades.
  • We encourage all voices.
  • We discuss ideas, NOT PEOPLE, and disagree without being disagreeable.
  • We avoid labeling and targeted profanity.
  • We maintain a positive expression of the “message” by not engaging unstable or volatile people.
  • We do not accept physical or verbal violence.
  • We avoid conflict through active listening and awareness of body language and emotional responses.
  • We seek to grow from our mistakes; conflicts within Occupy Atlanta are opportunities to learn.
  • We are either all leaders or none of us are leaders.
  • Make friends! Make an effort to get to know people and HAVE FUN!

This is how Occupy Valdosta organized its 14 October March. Now that school consolidation is decided, we shall see what happens next.

SUBJECT: Walmart Stores INC., must also be occupied on behalf of Mistreated, Untrained, and Wrongfully terminated workers among other things!
Even our 44th President of the United States of America is also being disrespected and ignored for the great human being that he is!
I was just notified by e-mail of the following comments made by a reverse patriot and christian in our beloved nation when our nation is at war!
COMMENTS: Lauren Pierce is the current president of the College Republicans at The University of Texas at Austin. The organization has been accused of racism in the past, and doesn’t seem to care about changing this tradition. http://blacklikemoi.com/uncategorized/u-of-texas-student-
This week on Twitter, the president said that the idea of assassinating President Obama is “tempting.” Only in Texas would the idea of killing a black man be so pleasing.
“Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”
Pierce sent her “enticing” tweet right after a man was arresting for firing shots at President Obama and his family. Pierce may be too young to understand that death threats are very real for President Obama and his family.
Pierce later said that her excitement over someone shooting President Obama was merely a “joke” and that the “whole [shooting incident] was stupid.” She then joked even further, saying that shooting President Obama would “only make the situation worse.”
The group’s Vice President stood by Pierce’s racism, stating that she made a “positive statement.”
Many Americans are extremely proud of our Fitst Black African American 44th President in the same manner we have respected the other 43 All White Male Presidents. Some of whom denied Blacks their very basic and God given rights for centuries but Blacks never spewed out the venom that we see today by todays patriots and christians here in America.
