Videos: Leadership Lowndes, VLCIA appointment, Rivers Radio @ LCC 2017-12-12

In an outbreak of transparency and due diligence in the last Lowndes County Commission of 2017,
they took ten minutes
replacing Mary Goodman
on the

Industrial Authority,
hearing from three nominees, and appointing Brad Folsom.
They took three and a half minutes to choose among three nominees
to the

Tourism Authority
to appoint
Robert Jefferson.
None of those nominees spoke, but the vote was so split
they actually had a runoff, which ended in a 3:2 final vote.
They also reappointed Joyce Evans by silent “acclamation”.

Leadership Lowndes spoke for 12 minutes (as long as three citizens get),

citizen Willie Mae Jones wanted to know what next to get her Black Road paved,
and County Engineer Mike Fletcher said the signatures were verified as 84% of the property owners on the road, so it would go on the paving list
with the 74 projects already on there.
Chairman Bill Slaughter

actually asked for Commissioner comments,
and each of them said a few words, mostly thanks to the staff and Merry Christmas.
Chairman Bill Slaughter even thanked citizens for coming to the meetings. Merry Christmas, Commissioners!

The longest rezoning public hearing was

Quattlebaum-Meadors, N Valdosta RD, R-21 to C-H.

The Planning Commission last month

welcomed Ed Hightower,
appointed earlier that same month

by the Lowndes County Commission.
They heard one case each from the seldom seen Cities of

Dasher,
and

Remerton (longest at almost 38 minutes on apartments at the old mill site).
plus
and three from
Lowndes County including

REZ-2018-02 CR Ventures – Rocky Ford Rd – 71 acres (third longest at 23 minutes),
and
five from Valdosta
including

Deep South Sanitation (second longest at more than 37 minutes),
which was also separately heard on a related matter by

ZBOA a week later.

Resolutions against GA state fee diversions and for water trail @ Hahira 2018-01-30

Tonight, a resolution

for Georgia HR 158 against state fee diversions, and
another resolution

supporting the Withlacoochee and Little River Water Trail,
at the Hahira City Council Work Session (and Thursday on the Regular Session agenda).
Also, Terry Benjamin will get sworn in again as

Councilman, District 1,
the

food truck zoning ordinance is back,
there’s a

RR crossing closure request,
and a

Recommendation to Raise Hahira Depot Rental Fee from $400 to $500,
among other items on the agenda.

Videos: Passed resolution for dedicated state fees and bids for equipment @ VCC 2018-01-25

The big item was they passed the

Resolution to support GA HR 158 for dedicated fee collections.

That and the

T-SPLOST projects and upcoming public meetings, by Mayor Gayle.
There was only one Citizen to Be Heard, which was

me, about the resolution and about public access to the Withlacoochee River
at Gornto Road in Valdosta.

Resolution for dedicated state fees and bids for equipment @ VCC 2018-01-25

Valdosta has a very light

agenda Thursday,
with a couple of bids and the same

resolution in support of Georgia HR 158 to stop diversion of state fees
that has already been passed by
Lanier County 2018-01-08,
by the City of Adel 2018-01-16,
by Atkinson County 2018-01-18,
and is on the agenda for Lowndes County 5:30 PM tonight 2018-01-23
and on the agenda for Hahira 6PM next Thursday 2018-02-01.

re-elected

Sandra Tooley (District 2) and
new members

Eric Howard (District 4)
and

Andy Gibbs (District 6),
plus Sandra Tooley again as

new Mayor Pro Tem.
The vote on Mayor Pro Tem

split evenly with the Mayor voting,
between Sandra Tooley and Tim Carroll,
so they ended up having Judge Tunison draw one of the two names out of a box.

Videos: Office rezoning, Georgia Power, Alcohol, and road abandomnent @ LCC 2017-11-14

They

added and agenda item for

7.p. Solicitor-General’s VOCA Grant Renewal; yes, really, the agenda was so long that’s sub-item letter P and the meeting was 51 and a half minutes long.

Longest at seven minutes was

6a. REZ-2017-11 Arrow Engineering,
in which the County Commissioners ignored the Planning Commission’s recommendation to deny, and the County Planner’s observation the previous morning that
the applicants would accept one acre.
Instead they approved 2.5 acres with no conditions as Office Institutional (OI)
in an area with no other instances of that.

At six minutes,

7.n. Georgia Power- VisionFirst
was about putting $25,000 to hire an unnamed consultant for a joint project
for unspecified results.

Update 2017-11-22: According to Chairman Bill Slaughter, the consultant is VisionFirst Advisors out of Tallahassee.

Did they mean the sinkhole-infested Mission Creek instead of

7.k. Grant of Easement for Utility Right of Way Moody-Mission Point?

Five minutes included questions from the Chairman and resulted in a split vote
and a stern warning on

7.i. Beer, Wine & Liquor License – Liquor Barn, 3990 N. Valdosta Rd.

One of the

two road abandonments,

7.a. Abandonment of Lane Road and a Portion of Sheavette Road,
got a very rare split vote, with Commissioner Clay Griner voting alone against.
