Videos: Process for non-profit applications for ARPA funds 2022-05-27

The Valdosta meeting about grants to non-profits from American Rescue Program Act (ARPA) funds consisted of
a five-minute welcome by Valdosta City Manager Mark Barber,
and a summary of the application process by Mike Smith of Valdosta United Way,
followed by a half hour of questions and answers.

Roads, Wastewater, and Trash @ VCC 2022-02-24

A twelve-foot alligator surfaced twice at the briefest Valdosta City Council meeting of recent memory, in

and
Citizens to Be Heard, related to the Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle organized by WWALS,
with Suwannee Riverkeeper John S. Quarterman as a speaker.

Four from Leadership Lowndes where there,
and there’s a New Neighborhood Development and Community Protections Manager, Anetra Riley.
The Mayor recognized WWALS, which is a first.

Videos: Roads, rezoning, sales tax, Sunday alcohol, and Troupville River Camp @ VCC 2019-12-05

Other than the three
Awards and Presentations,
the longest agenda item was

5.a. Alcohol Ordinance Revision (Brunch Bill),
which had already been approved by a referendum of the voters.
On implementing it, all voted aye except one.


Almost as long was

7.b. Request for letter of support by WWALS for the Troupville River Camp project.
Valdosta City Manager Mark Barber described the project and the situation.
In Citizens To Be Heard (CBTH),

WWALS Executive Director Gretchen Quarterman thanked Council
for approving the letter.

The first speaker in CTBH asked for the city to

rebuild streets in the Highland subdivision.
He said there had been insufficient engineering and lack of maintenance of streets, including for water flow.

Unfortunately, can’t really make out what the

pair of second speakers were asking for.

Videos: Passed resolution for dedicated state fees and bids for equipment @ VCC 2018-01-25

The big item was they passed the

Resolution to support GA HR 158 for dedicated fee collections.


That and the

T-SPLOST projects and upcoming public meetings, by Mayor Gayle.
There was only one Citizen to Be Heard, which was

me, about the resolution and about public access to the Withlacoochee River
at Gornto Road in Valdosta.

School Board Candidates at VSU @ YR 2014-05-15



Here are videos of the school board candidates from

the “debate” of last Tuesday at VSU.
Remember, this school board election will be decided tomorrow, Tuesday May 20th, unless there’s a runoff for some seat,
so tomorrow is the day to vote.

This is everything they said at VSU, except some of the answers to the first question,
since I was late from the Lowndes County Commission meeting; sorry about that.

District 1: the incumbent, Mike Davis, spoke,
and challenger Bobby Watford was absent.

District 2: the incumbent Fred Wetherington, has chosen not to run.
All three candidates for this open seat spoke:
Eric Johnson, Tara Parker, and Mark Barber.

District 3: the incumbent, Brian Browning, is running unopposed,
and did not speak at VSU.

Tonight is the first open candidates forum of the election season,
for all candidates running for offices voted on by residents of Hahira,
at the Hahira Historical Society,
116 E. Lawson Street,
in the old Smith Hospital Doctors Building in Hahira,
6PM April 26th 2014.

That includes:

Georgia General Assembly

  • State Senate District 8:
    Ellis Black (R switched from House 174),
    John Page (R switched from County Commission District 5),
    Bikram Mohanty (D ran last time and placed well),
    and
