A farce, a hoax, and wrong: citizens about Sabal to FERC in Moultrie 2015-09-29


“You tell us you’re sorry and it happens again”, said Alton Burns of Coolidge about pipeline leaks, fires, and explosions,
setting the tone for the whole evening, which ended with local landowners
calling the whole process

a farce
and

a hoax.
As attorney Jonathan Waters said,

South Georgia is a home, not a pipeline easement.

The FERC meetings started the previous evening in Albany and continue at 5:30 PM each night at:

  • Wednesday, September 30, at Holiday Inn Valdosta, Conference Center Magnolia Ballroom, 1805 West Hill Ave., Valdosta, GA 31601. LAKE videos from Valdosta.
  • Thursday, October 1, at Columbia High School Auditorium, 469 SE Fighting Tiger Drive, Lake City, FL 32025 LAKE videos from Lake City.

There are

many more things you can do to stop Sabal Trail.
Remember, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Valdosta City Council Retreats to Moultrie this weekend

Citizens can attend this open meeting to hear about that flooding study, traffic cameras, compensation, and other issues, even though it’s


inconveniently located in another county, almost as if the
Valdosta City Council didn’t want you to see what they’re doing.
If City Hall wouldn’t do, why not the Convention Center?
It has its own chef. Like the VDT editorialized,
there was no need to go to a out-of-town fancy resort.

Valdosta City Council retreating in Moultrie,

The two-day event will feature discussion of issues that Mayor John
Gayle and the City Council want to focus on in the coming year, as
well as priorities for the legislative delegation and the Georgia
Department of Transportation.

In addition, the results of a city employee compensation study will
be released and discussed at the retreat.

The number one issue listed by the council for the current year
involves funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for a
levee and pump proposal.

Moultrie wasn’t asked about MGAG gas from Sabal Trail –WCTV

Spectra starts trying to walk back its previous eminent domain statements,
as WCTV reveals
MGAG didn’t ask Moultrie before saying Colquitt County needed gas
from Sabal Trail,
and even MGAG says that deal wouldn’t (yet) affect eminent domain.

Sabal Trail newspaper assertions contradicted by Spectra corporate documents and FERC filings –John S. Quarterman to FERC



“I ask you and FERC to stop Sabal
Trail from telling newspapers things that Spectra
Energy’s own corporate documents refute, and to start
paying attention to multiple requests by county commissions
and other affected parties.”

Back in December, Spectra’s Andrea Grover and Brian Fahrenthold were
“not familiar” with Spectra’s lengthy safety rap sheet (see above picture).
Yesterday’s VDT had
Sabal Trail: Eminent domain accusation ‘hard to believe’
by Joe Adgie. Meanwhile, the Moultrie Observer has picked up
the VDT story.
Maybe some newspapers will also publish better information
than what trained pipeline PR people seem not to remember or believe, despite
copious evidence of the actual facts.

Twice the acreage than solar for Sabal Trail pipeline to produce the same power @ FERC 2014-03-05


According to Sabal Trail’s own numbers, twice as much land for
the entire three-pipeline Spectra -> Sabal -> FSC proposed gouge
through three states
as would be required to produce as much solar power.

Here are videos of the whole thing.

Not only did Colquitt County pass a resolution about pipeline depth;
a County Commissioner the county attorney stood up and reminded FERC about it,
which got John Peconom to admit that FERC has required a deeper minimum
pipeline depth in some other states.

So far that’s speaking against the pipeline:

Only one of those county commissions claims
there’s nothing you can do; the rest are all doing something.

Sabal Trail
had an interactive GIS map of the entire pipeline route

in Moultrie last night,
with zoom and pan detail as good as the tax assessor maps for

Brooks and

Lowndes Counties.
The Sabal Trail reps declined to provide a copy of the whole GIS,
but they obligingly panned down the pipeline and waited while I
took pictures with my smartphone.

Sabal Trail Pipeline Context maps –Spectra Energy and FPL



Where does Spectra Energy’s natural gas come from,
and where does it go?
These maps from

the Moultrie meeting help explain.
Spoiler: from fracking to FPL.

In “Our Portfolio of Assets”, Spectra Energy shows
pipelines running from shale gas formations in and around Pennsylvania and
down the Appalachians into Tennessee, through north Georgia, and into Alabama,
as well as from gas storage facilities in Louisiana
and shale fields in Texas.

So that’s where it comes from:
the Marcellus Shale and its relatives down through

(soon) the Conasauga Shale in north Georgia and Alabama
and into Louisiana and Texas.
Fracking, in other words.

That was not a word that was used by any of the Sabal Trail reps nor a word that
appeared on any of their maps or in any of their handouts.
But fracking is how natural gas is extracted from the Marcellus Shale,
as Andrea Grover presumably knows, since she was

sent to Pennsylvania in April to explain a Spectra Energy gas release from a compressor in Marcellus Shale country.

Where is the gas through the Sabal Trail pipeline supposed to go?
Orlando, to the Sabal Trail Central Florida Hub.
Why?
Well, according to
Andrea Grover, Florida Power and Light is “modernizing”.
She explained that FPL has shut down some coal plants,
and is converting to natural gas.

Spectra Energy in Moultrie about Sabal Trail Pipeline

I went to the

Spectra Pipeline meeting in Moultrie tonight,
where many people in blue shirts saying Sabal Trail, including

Brian Fahrenthold
(who volunteered that I could take pictures of maps)
and
Andrea Grover (who will be in Valdosta tomorrow),
were happy to answer questions from a landowner such as myself.

known by, well, disappearing, at least as much as possible for the
largest minority group.

On Friday, the day a strict new immigration law takes effect, many will
stay home from work and refrain from shopping to help make others aware
of the impact of their contributions in the county.
