On the agenda for this morning is reappointing Mrs. Elsie Napier to the Lowndes County Division of Family and Children Services Board. I don’t know if she will speak, but here’s video of her previously speaking at the Valdosta City Council about community grants.

There’s also a rezoning for offices on Old US 41 North, two alcohol licenses, a Bid for Purchase of Structural Fire Fighting Gear, and two road paving items, for Boring Pond Lane and 2019 Resurfacing of Five County Roads, plus 2019 Re-striping of Four County Toads.
They expect this Work Session to take less than 15 minutes, since they have a Special Called Meeting at 8:45 AM: “There could be a slight delay if the work session runs longer than expecte.” Why they couldn’t wait one day to vote on that also in tomorrow’s Regular Session is mysterious.

In her first meeting as Chair, Vicki Rountree moved right along, even getting the opening reading of the set script down to barely four minutes, even including invocation and pledge.
All the rezonings considered that Monday by the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) are in Lowndes County, not in any of its incorporated cities. The two on Madison Highway appear to be coincidence. REZ-2019-01 Jerry Stoker is apparently for one or both of the two Stoker Development LLC parcels on Old Pine Road. This is part of the general development of what Lowndes County staff refer to as “Central Lowndes County”, as in their preferred development area.

Again like in the
previous morning’s Work Session
the lengthiest regular item was the
rezoning on Rocky Ford Road
for the
church-proposed Camp Rock,
mostly with attorney Jack Langdale speaking for,
including that a “wilderness camp” for unfortunate children doesn’t need
a buffer, and any future buyers of neighboring property beware.
The Sharp family said for seven years they have been trying to get somebody to do something about stray dogs, only to discover Animal Control doesn’t work weekends anymore, and the Sheriff’s office won’t do anything, even though one of their family had been killed by the dogs and another bitten, and the dogs are now into their second and third generations running loose.
Third longest was Continue reading
It was Art
(12 minutes of
4. State of the Arts by Cheryl Oliver, Director, Turner Center of the Arts)
Law
(10:46 of
7.c. Solicitor-General’s Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Grant Application
and
1:31 of
Introduction of new Probation Officer, which was not on the agenda),
and
Development
(
6.b. REZ-2018-02, E-A and C-C to E-A and PD-R, 4391 Rocky Ford Rd, ~72 acres)
this morning at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session.
Actually, all of those items were about law enforcement one way or another.
The Commissioners vote Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM.
