Update 2026-07-09: Draft Minutes: Lowndes County small subdivision and communications tower, Valdosta doublewide and contractor office @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Update 2026-07-08: Work Session Monday or Tuesday? @ LCC 2026-07-14.

The Greater Lowndes Planning Commissioners (GLPC) approved everything unanimously, except for three split votes: on the proposed communications tower in Langdale Park (see below), on a CUP for a mobile home in a single-family residential zoning district in Valdosta (see below), and on setback variances at Exit 29 in Hahira (see below).

They heard all the Dasher cases together, then voted on them one by one.

For Lowndes County case 7. REZ-2026-14 6808 Wisenbaker Road

there was quite a bit of discussion about use of a dirt road but applicant said that they never used the dirt road because there are two paved access lanes to the parcel.

Regarding 8. TWR-2026-02 Bermuda Run, 3781 North Valdosta Road

I was the only speaker in opposition. My main point was that county staff had not supplied information in a timely manner so that the public, or even the Planning Commissioners, would have adequate time to consider the evidence. Plus according to conformance with the ULDC, which is what staff said the Commissioners were supposed to be evaluating, the tower does not fit in Langdale Park. For my points, see Packet: Propagation maps for Verizon tower in Langdale Park @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

http://www.l-a-k-e.org/blog/?p=25853

They did recommend approval, but with a split vote, 5 to 2.

Regarding 9. CU-2026-05 Request by Tierra Inman for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the placement of a mobile home in a Single-family Residential (R-6) zoning district

Update 2026-07-06: Videos: 4 Dasher, 2 Lowndes County inc. comm. tower in Langdale Park, 2 Valdosta, 1 Hahira @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Here is some information about the Verizon Wireless proposed communications tower in Langdale Park, that was missing from the board packet for the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) meeting on June 29, 2026.

There are still more missing pieces that are required by the county’s own Unified Land Development Code (ULDC):

  • An inventory in VALORGIS of the applicant’s existing towers or alternative tower structures. See ULDC 5.05.05.B.2
  • Signature and seal of “appropriate licensed professionals or qualified industry experts.” See 5.05.05.E
  • An argument for why Langdale Park would not be a “historic district” or a “scenic view corridor.” See 5.05.05.G.5
  • An argument for why hiking trails cleared by numerous citizens would not be public rights of way. See 5.05.05.I.I. and the Right-of-Way definition on page 1-25.

GLPC recommended approval of TWR-2026-02, but only by a split vote: LAKE videos to come.

The Lowndes County Commission will decide at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The tower would be a stone’s throw from the main trail kiosk, at 30.885908, -83.320453, and right next to White Trail A, which many citizens helped clear of Hurricane Helene deadfalls.

Thanks to Jason Davenport, consultant for Lowndes County Planning, who sent this additional information in the morning before the meeting. He was responding to a followup I sent after the initial county response to the LAKE open records request of the previous Tuesday. My followup request was a brief version of the discrepencies I noted in the LAKE post with the previously-received TWR-2026-02 board packet materials. Continue reading

Update 2026-06-27: WWALS blog post Verizon tower in Langdale Park? @ GLPC 2026-06-29.

Verizon Wireless wants to put a communications tower in Langdale Park, a stone’s throw from the main kiosk, at 30.885908, -83.320453.

The rezoning sign is not in Langdale Park: it’s on the private property on Hyta Mederer Road, at 30.8870644, -83.3173206.

The FAA NOTICE CRITERA say it’s in Remerton.

The packet materials for TWR-2026-02 Bermuda Run say its address is 3781 North Valdosta Road, which is misleading at best.

Also:

The decision to be made by the Board of Commissioners is not a zoning decision. It is a quasi-judicial decision whether the standards for a telecommunications tower in Section 5.05.05 of the ULDC are met.

The TRC analyzed the request, the standards set forth in Section 5.05.00 (attached), and Section 10.02.00 of the ULDC, and noted that Continue reading

Coleman Road potential datacenter site @ GLPC 2025-06-30

Update 2026-06-11: A version including links and pictures of the relevant Lowndes County Commission meetings, Rezoning application for potential datacenter, Coleman Road, Lowndes County 2025-06-30.

Somebody asked why three Planning Commissioners opposed the rezoning for the potential datacenter site south of North Valdosta Road and the Foxborough subdivision, on the west (right) bank of the Withlacoochee River.

According to the draft minutes of the July June 30, 2026 2025, GLPC meeting, “Four (4) voted in favor, three (3) opposed (Graham, J. Miller & Foreman) (4-3). Motion carried.”

Also according to those draft minutes:

  • “Commissioner Graham asked if tractor trailers are a concern. Mr. Dillard explained that Condition #2 addresses that with regard to any change of use and requirements.”
  • “Vice-Chairman Miller asked if studies have been done to assess the impacts on groundwater with similar developments. Mr. Langdale explained that new models address that with cooling/recycling water systems.”
  • “Commissioner Foreman asked to verify that the development is currently speculative. Mr. Langdale confirmed.”

See below for LAKE videos of everything everyone said about that rezoning item in that meeting.

If you want to know what they were thinking beyond that, you could go to tonight’s 5:30 PM GLPC meeting and ask them before or after the meeting.

Videos: Two rezonings and a beer and wine license @ LCC Regular 2025-07-08

The Lowndes County Commissioners approved everything unanimously at their Regular Session of July 8, 2025.

There was (for them) extensive discussion of the large rezoning off Coleman Road and North Valdosta Road that was controversial at their Work Session the previous morning, as it was at the preceding Planning Commission meeting. Each speaker pro and con and the Commissioners’ remarks are in these LAKE videos.

County Engineering Services Director Chad McLeod reported they are still on target to be finished by August 2nd with the Val Del Road intersection with North Valdosta Road.

Two citizens spoke. Suwannee Riverkeeper John S. Quarterman thanked the Chairman for paddling in the Mayor and Chairmans Paddle by Suwannee Riverkeeper. He provide dates for the 2026 paddle. He invited everyone to a chainsaw cleanup on the Withlacoochee River, and to the WWALS River Revue including the Suwannee Riverkeeper Songwriting Contest.

Jamie Parks, 106 E Grace Street, Hahira, said on behalf of some people he had been trying to get a rezoning on on Horace Ave. off of Madison Highway next to Mud Creek, which he needed to get the Army Corps to delineate the floodplain. Chairman Bill Slaughter said they would look into it.

Update 2025-07-18: Videos: Two rezonings and a beer and wine license @ LCC Regular 2025-07-08.

The large rezoning off Coleman Road and North Valdosta Road was controversial at the Lowndes County Commission (LCC) this morning, as it was previously at the Planning Commission.

The County Planner presented some maps and information that were not seen in the Planning Commission meeting, and the County Commissioners had many questions.

The LCC votes to decide tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at 5:30 PM, after a final Public Hearing in which citizens can speak.

The other rezoning and the beer and wine license were not controversial, but they will also have their Public Hearings.

Speaking for the second rezoning, 4. REZ-2025-11 Langdale Capital Assets, Coleman Rd C-C R-1 CON to M-1 CON, Pope Langdale said that because of the railroad, which also often has a train parked on it, something would have to change to enable developing the part east of the railroad.

Update 2026-05-30: Videos: Lowndes County small subdivision and communications tower, Valdosta doublewide and contractor office @ GLPC 2026-05-26.

As promised, JD Dillard and BOC Records provided the packet materials for the two county rezonings on the agenda for the Monday evening Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) meeting. Staff wants conditions on one, but not the other.

Agenda: Two Lowndes County rezonings @ GLPC 2025-06-30

Update 2025-06-26: Packet: RV Park and Warehouse Campus Lowndes County rezoning materials @ GLPC 2025-06-30.

Two county rezonings are the only action items on the agenda for the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) for Monday evening at 5:30 PM.

[Two Lowndes County rezonings, @ GLPC 2025-06-30, Cain, 6161 US 41 N, Langdale CA, Coleman Road]
Two Lowndes County rezonings, @ GLPC 2025-06-30, Cain, 6161 US 41 N, Langdale CA, Coleman Road

One is north of Hahira halfway to Cecil, in the watershed of Franks Creek, which goes to the Little River.

The other is directly across the Withlacoochee River from Langdale Park, on Coleman Road off of North Valdosta Road. Presumably the part proposed for M-1 (Light Manufacturing) zoning is next to Coleman Road, not next to the river. We will know after the County Planner finishes the board packet materials.

Meanwhile I have included maps of the subject properties from the Lowndes County Tax Assessors.

Here is the agenda.

According to Lowndes County Planner JD Dillard this morning at 8:55 AM, “The board packets have not been completed yet. Once available, I will send them to the BOC Records.”

Presumably then BOC Records will send them to LAKE to finish their response to the LAKE open records request. After we get them, I will publish them.

So far, the agenda and the Minutes of the previous GLPC meeting are on the LAKE website. Continue reading
