Correspondence: Proposed Rezoning on GA 122 at Skipper Bridge Road 2022-12-12

Update 2022-12-20:
Videos: Dollar General rezoning tabled, Troupville Nature Park land purchased @ LCC 2022-12-13.

All letters were opposed, of those sent to GLPC or LCC by December 12, 2022, about the rezoning for a Dollar General on GA 122 at Skipper Bridge Road.

Thanks to Lowndes County Planner JD Dillard for sending this correspondence on REZ-2022-20 last Monday in response to an open records request,
before I mentioned it in the Lowndes County Commission meeting Tuesday.

Letters

There are letters from Joyce Jones, Jamie Rowntree, and Gwen Rowntree.
Gwen Rowntree sent a letter to the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC)
and followed up with a similar letter to the Lowndes County Commission (LCC).

It appears that while there may be people who have spoken to Commissioners in support of the rezoning,
as of Monday a week ago nobody had written in support.
All the letters are in opposition.

They propose to approve

$1.6 million for resurfacing some roads, it’s not clear which ones,
at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session Monday morning and voting Regular Session Tuesday evening.

Valdosta Named “Smart Energy Municipality of the Year”,



The City of Valdosta was named “Smart Energy Municipality of
the Year” by the

Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) on
Dec. 4, at an awards banquet held at the Georgia Tech Wardlaw
Building in Atlanta, Ga. The event recognized successful
individuals, businesses and municipalities who have shown dynamic
leadership over the past year in Georgia’s large and growing Smart
Energy sector.

Sixty nominations were received collectively in the three
categories. In the municipality category, which includes cities,
counties and state government agencies, the City of Valdosta was one
of two finalists and the overall recipient of the award ” the

There was at least some reason for the Commission’s approval of the
Family Dollar and other use rezoning for Roger Budd Jr. and Leninco
out of the Francis Lake golf course in Lake Park:

because it would include a condition of a berm that would continue
with the property regardless of who owned it.
The applicant’s
attorney had made it clear that applicant
considered the berm too expensive and it, along with other conditions,
might make the project unfeasible.
Perhaps the Commission should apply the same technique

to stop the Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline.
