Valdosta to add solar power to both wastewater treatment plants 2016-10-06
Valdosta just leapfrogged the rest of the state in solar power for wastewater treatment plants.
Council Tim Carroll expanded beyond the laconic summary of Thursday’s Valdosta City Council action,
which itself expanded on a July action.
Turns out Valdosta is one of several cities across Georgia with solar power for their wastewater treatment facilities, and maybe not the largest nor the earliest, but apparently the earliest large one.
The main point is clear from all of them: solar power for wastewater plants pays for itself in only a few years and can save millions of dollars over decades.

Videos: More northern subdivision rezonings + 6 Valdosta @ GLPC 2016-08-29
A third Lowndes County Case in west Valdosta near James Road,
REZ-2016-15, was pulled from the agenda until next month
to be sure it will be ready for review (but not withdrawn).
One Valdosta case,
CU-2016-02, was announced as withdrawn
at the beginning of the meeting.
The
stormwater LDR changes apparently were mostly to
remove description of very old previous material and various housekeeping
including reflecting a rate increase the Valdosta City Council already approved
back in June after a series of public hearings.
Expect the Comprehensive Plan back next month: they didn’t examine it this time because
the agenda was already very long. Continue reading

Still more subdivisions planned in what the county calls
Central Lowndes County
and near Hahira,
and a bunch of stuff in Valdosta.
including
stormwater revisions to the LDR.
Here’s
the agenda,
and see the

Flood map funding on Valdosta agennda @ VCC 2016-08-11
It’s Valdosta’s turn, after
Lowndes County approved up to $40,000,
tomorrow (Thursday 11 Aug 2016),
it’s on the
Valdosta City Council agenda
for the city to approve a similar amount,
adding up to matching what USGS is willing to supply.
It was Valdosta’s idea in the first place, and maybe this
interactive flood map for a small part of the Withlacoochee River through Valdosta will help prevent, or at least provide early warning for,
the types of
road closings and other floodings that happened in 2009.

COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL
Videos: 3 Hahira rezonings + annexation, Valdosta PD + LDR @ GLPC 2016-05-31
Here are LAKE videos of
the controversial Hahira rezonings and annexation
at the Planning Commission May 31st 2016.
The longest GLPC discussion was actually on the
Valdosta sign ordinance changes.
County Manager Joe Pritchard acknowledged receipt of a letter from Hahira at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session 2016-05-23 and the next day the County Commission voted they had no objections. After nobody from the audience spoke for or against, the Planning Commission on 2016-05-31 recommended anexation, chaired by vice-chair Jody Hall of Hahira. Probably the Hahira City Council discussed this item at the Hahira City Council Work Session the same day as the County Commission Work Session, and proceeded with the annexation at the Hahira Regular Session of June 2nd, but the last Hahira minutes online are from February 2016.
Thanks to Hahira City Planner Matt Martin, packet materials Continue reading

are on the Planning Commission agenda tonight at 5:30 PM.

the Hahira items are

Here’s the agenda that was not available before the GLPC Work Session, but is online now before tonight’s 5:30 PM Regular Session.

No agenda for Planning Commission Work Session @ GLPC 2016-05-23
On
Lowndes County’s website
there’s no agenda for tonight’s Planning Commission Work Session,
even though
the City of Valdosta’s calendar
lists that Work Session for 5:30 PM Monday May 23rd 2016
at South Health District Administrative Office (former Lowndes County Administration Building),
325 W Savannah Ave, Valdosta, GA 31601.
Presumably the
Hahira rezonings and annexation will be discussed.
And will County Manager Joe Pritchard say this morning at 8:30 AM
at the Lowndes County Work Session that he has received an annexation letter from Hahira?
Neither of these Monday meetings are public hearings: the public can attend, but can not speak. See previous post for when the public hearings are.

On Valdosta’s website, 9 March 2016, CVDA Hosts Public Forum for Proposed Downtown Parking Deck, Mar. 15
The City of Valdosta and Central Valdosta Development Authority will host a public forum on Tuesday, March 15 to discuss a proposed new parking deck for Downtown Valdosta. The forum will take place at 5 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Lee Street.
The parking deck is being suggested as one option to create additional parking opportunities in Downtown Valdosta. At the forum, conceptual plans for the parking deck will be presented. Key staff members will be present at the meeting, and the public will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns related to the proposed project.
