Church, manufacturing, subdivisions, Hahira annexation @ GLPC 2018-08-27

The

Hahira annexation and rezoning

from the Lowndes County Commission meeting two weeks ago (and see comment below)
was on the

agenda for the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC)
last night,
along with another subdivision, a church expansion, and some industry,
in Valdosta and Lowndes County.
I did not go, and Gretchen is out of the county, so there is no LAKE video.

You may ask yourself, as I do: why doesn’t the county video GLPC meetings?
Or the city of Valdosta?
Both have the facilities to do so.

LAKE received this comment yesterday on the Hahira case:

Here is more info on this project which I am proud to bring to the community and which I believe will be a wonderful addition to it that all will feel proud to have. It ties into the community roots, it honors those that came before, and it meets a need today in north Lowndes County and does so in a wall all can feel proud of. I am a concerned citizen like anyone else and that is a big part of why I have gone out of my way with my engineer and planners to create something not only compliant, but that goes well above the line to bring something truly beautiful, that reflects both my family and my community in a way I can hold my up about when I walk around the community. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely, Chris Connell http://www.mcnealestates.com

LAKE does not have a position on this case.
We will be happy to publish other comments for or against.

Videos: New Member and blood bank @ GLPC 2018-07-30

The big news is that

Lowndes County Planner Jason Davenport is leaving his position at the county
for another opportunity.

GLPC

welcomed its new member, Calvin Graham, Sr.
, who only said “Thank you,”
to replace Celine Gladwin, who declined to be reappointed.
See
previous post for some background.

The one case,

CU-2018-05 LifeSouth3. Community Blood Centers – 301 Woodrow Wilson
,
was presented by City Planner Matt Martin, and after three times
addressing one question, Continue reading

Since Celine Gladwin declined to be reappointed,

GLPC has a new member, Calvin Graham, Sr.
,
who ran for Valdosta City Council District 2 in 2013, when he said

he was an Army veteran who subsequently worked for the Department of Defense
.
Sandra Tooley

won
, and is still on the Valdosta City Council.

That leaves the Planning Commission with no female members and no architect.

There’s only one case on
the agenda for this evening: Continue reading

Tonight

the Lowndes County Commission will be voting

on two rezonings that were considered a few weeks ago in the June 2018 Planning Commission meeting.

GLPC took 3/4 of an hour (by far the longest) on

and 8 minutes on

2. REZ-2018-13 Sims, Sims, Jackson Beaver Rd E-A to R-1
,
before recommending both unanimously.

Second longest at 16 and a half minutes was the Valdosta case,

6. VA-2018-10 ADCO Investments – 3320 North Oak Street Ext – R-15 to R-P
.

Here are LAKE videos of each GLPC agenda item, followed by a LAKE video playlist.

Two rezonings, bids, contracts, and alcohol @ LCC 2018-06-11

Last week while we were out of town, the Lowndes County Commission considered
two rezonings, one with

a Union Road, Hahira address
,
by far the longest,
with Judge Arthur McLane speaking against,
the applicant Stacy Stubbs speaking for,
and quite a bit of discussion among Commissioners and staff,
after which they approved it 3:2 with the two conditions proposed by the Planning Commission.
The other rezoning has

a Valdosta address
, which they approved unanimously;
for both see also
the preceding Planning Commission meeting.
Plus a third transportation item,
GDOT Option for Right of Way at Exit 11.
A bid, a bunch of contracts, and an alcohol license; pretty routine.

Motel, Agricultural, Commercial @ GLPC 2018-05-29

A

motel
,
somebody wanting

to revert to agricultural
,
and

a commercial rezoning
halfway between exits 22 and 29.
Pretty standard fare at the Planning Commission this evening.

Videos: Senior living, pool, Hahira food trucks @ GLPC 2018-04-30

Yes, it was food trucks Hahira wants

to change in its Zoning Ordinance
,
and that was the long item, at 42 minutes in Monday’s Planning Commission
meeting.
Neighbors Barry Robinson and Gretchen Quarterman spoke about it at the
Planning Commission,
as did the food truck owner,
and I bet on all of them being at the
Hahira City Council tonight, especially given that the Planning Commission recommendation was not favorable.

The Planning Commission spent less than 18 minutes on the

two rezonings

for

a senior living residential housing complex
in Valdosta.
The request for

a Planned Development on Gornto Road
took about as long.

Could it be food trucks Hahira wants

to change in its Zoning Ordinance
?
In Valdosta,
a request for

a Planned Development on Gornto Road
,
and

two rezonings

for

a senior living residential housing complex
which would
have access on Ashley Street, Emory Street, and University Drive,
based around the site of China Garden.

Videos: North Oak Street, Lakeland Highway, Rocky Ford Road @ GLPC 2018-03-26

The Planning Commission had a large crowd,
including County Commissioner Joyce Evans and Chairman Bill Slaughter
visible lower left, and that may be Commissioner Mark Wisenbaker in front of them.

lower left: Joyce Evans, Bill Slaughter, Lowndes County Commission, Crowd

Most of them

left
after the

North Oak Street

planned development, excuse me, rezoning,
took almost an hour.
See the notes on that item below for a spoiler for what happened to it later.

Second longest at almost fourteen minutes was the

Lakeland Highway
rezoning, in which the current owners
apparently were trying to fix a problem left them by previous owners.

Third at almost seven minutes was a tie between
the

CR Ventures
(Camp Rock again) rezoning on Rocky Ford Road
and
the

Kaylyn Gill Tucker
rezoning on Enoch Lake Road,
carving out a plot for a single house from a planned development.
