Videos: Moody MAZ, Agriculture, Church @ GLPC 2015-06-29

At a very well attended June 29th meeting,
the notorious

TXT-2015-01 Moody Activity Zoning Districts (MAZ) ULDC text amendments

got tabled again by the Planning Commission,
but the Lowndes County Commission could take them up anyway at their
meeting a month later.
The Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce did oppose these changes in person
(both their President and Chairman)
after

voting a resolution of opposition.
Meanwhile, LAKE has laid out the board packet item from last time so you can get an idea of what’s going on and why, including links to the LAKE videos of the previous GLPC and Lowndes County Commission meetings where these MAZ changes were discussed.

Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken, says the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce

about the county-proposed

changes to the Moody Activities Zone (MAZ),

This evening, the notorious

are back on the agenda, for decision by the Lowndes County Commission
a month later.
Usually reliable sources say the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce
will be opposing some of these changes.
Meanwhile, LAKE has laid out the board packet item from last time so you can get an idea of what’s going on and why, including links to the LAKE videos of the previous GLPC and Lowndes County Commission meetings where these MAZ changes were discussed.

REZ-2015-12 Martha Russ
wants to zone to less density while

REZ-2015-13 Clementine Miller
wants more density.
And in Valdosta

CU-2015-02 Kelly Barcol
wants a church in a Single-Family Residential (R-10) district.

The Planning Commission said at its 26 May 2015 meeting
that it needed at least a month more to review
Lowndes County’s proposed changes to the Moody Activity Zoning (MAZ)
Districts, which is why

the County Commission is pushing back the schedule on that.

yet another subdivision on Old US 41 N,
this one due west of Nelson Hill on Val Del.

Why Vallotton wants to rezone back to agricultural @ GLPC 2015-03-30

Yesterday morning the County Planner seemed perplexed about

the Vallotton family request to go back to the most agricultural
zoning, E-A.
Yet he was there when Bill Langdale explained
that at the

Planning Commission 30 March 2015, aided by multiple Planning Commissioners,
plus a few words from me.

He didn’t bring agriculture to the city; the city come to him….

I think it’s going to be real hard one day trying to eat this concrete.

Videos: Vallotton agriculture on Bemiss Road, historic preservation, personal services @ GLPC 2015-03-30

They took the
Lake Park personal services case
first and recommended it 8:0.

REZ-2015-06 Vickers was withdrawn by applicant.

Vallotton Farms‘ reversion to Estate Agricultural was recommended 8:0
after an explanation by attorney Bill Langdale (and yours truly chimed in).
Denser zoning for

Edward Jennings LLC
was recommended 5:4 with a rare example of the Chairman voting, this time in favor.
And the Valdosta historic preservation
LDR changes were recommended 8:0.
Those two Lowndes County cases have already been heard at the
Lowndes County Commission
Work Session yesterday morning
and will be voted on tonight at the Regular Session.
The Vallotton case greatly puzzled the County Planner and at least one of the Commissioners.

Return to agriculture, historic preservation, and personal services @ GLPC 2015-03-30

While

Vallotton Farms wants to revert to Estate Agricultural,

Vickers
and

Edward Jennings LLC want denser zoning.
It’s not clear what the
Valdosta historic preservation case
or the
Lake Park personal services case
are about, since the county still doesn’t publish board packets.
Note that Vallotton Farms (both the part outlined in red
that appears to be the subject of the rezoning and the bigger part west of Bemiss Road) is on Cherry Creek, upstream from the dam,
and upstream from Cherry Creek Sink on the
Withlacoochee River, which leaks into our drinking water in the Floridan Aquifer.
Better agriculture upstream from that than other possibilities.

Videos: 1 commercial, 1 subdivision @ GLPC 2015-02-23

In the briefest Planning Commission meeting I can recall,
Stovall got her

rezoning of 5.84 acres to General Commercial on Oak Street Extension
recommended unanimously Monday 23 February 2015.
Ivy Gate subdivision’s second phase

to rezone 10.33 acres to R-10 on Cat Creek Road
at

4088 Cat Creek Road
was also recommended unanimously.
Nobody spoke for or against either rezoning,
and there was no discussion from Commissioners,
other than a recommendation by Commissioner Wildes that all lots
face interior roads for Ivy Gate.

After the rezonings,

Commissioners joked that with a meeting so brief they might catch
up with the County Commission.
County Chairman Bill Slaughter responded, “Actually, we just showed up
to show you how to run a quick meeting.”
The difference is GLPC actually does discuss when there’s something to discuss.
These cases will show up on the County Commission agenda for March 10th,
so we’ll see who takes longer on them then.
