Mike Allen, former Utilities Director,

no longer works for the county as of last Friday, according to
County Manager Joe Pritchard.

Dr. Amanda Hall
proposed an

anti-tethering ordinance.
Both at yesterday morning’s Work Session of the Lowndes County Commission.

Lowndes County won

an award for its budget as “a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.”


All good except: as a communications device?
They’d probably have to publish drafts of it before they passed it for
that to be true.
Unless they mean as in a public telling, not a public hearing.
They won last year, too,

along with 45 other winners in Georgia,
including Valdosta.
Award, or passing grade?
They’ll

present it tonight
at the Regular Session.

No rezonings, but

surplus computing devices,
abandonment of

Deloach Road E (CR 95),
more on the
never-ending juvenile justice Evidence Based Associates topic,

Workers Compensation Insurance Renewal,
and

sewer gasses corrode manhole covers. I wonder how much gases
corrode pipelines?

Valdosta City Council member Tim Carroll files with FERC



Tim Carroll, District 5, has filed a request based on property
rights and water issues for the Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission (FERC) to deny the Sabal Trail Transmission methane
pipeline that Spectra Energy wants to run through Lowndes County.
Here’s the letter:
Property rights and water: please deny the Sabal Trail methane
pipeline –Tim Carroll, Valdosta City Council,
5th District

Valdosta is the county seat of Lowndes County, Georgia, and at
least one landowner with land in the path of that proposed pipeline
lives in the City of Valdosta in Council Carroll’s district.

When someone took Susan Waller up on her offer
to answer questions about the Sabal Trail pipeline, she seemed to find the truth as reported by her own company to a
federal pipeline oversight agency to be “disruptive”.

We are a very genuine, safe, law-abiding company.

So said Spectra VP or Shareholder Outreach Susan Waller.
She then complained that “your group”
was “disruptive” and “you don’t want to hear the truth”.

So Ben Vieth showed Waller

lists of incidents of corrosion reported by Spectra to PHMSA.
To which another Sabal Trail rep. said,
“We have a safe operation”.

Spectra never bothered to check pipeline for corrosion –Spectra employee

So

“the pipe will be monitored 24/7”?
That’s not Spectra’s actual practice, according to an employee
and according to a federal fine.

Spectra Energy Employee: We Never Bothered to Check Natural Gas Pipeline for Corrosion,



A Spectra Energy employee acknowledged to federal inspectors that
the company never conducted key tests for corrosion on a natural gas
pipeline that was already operating at excess capacity, according to
documents recently obtained by NaturalGasWatch.org.

Additionally, according to another May 2, 2013 letter sent under
separate cover from (PHMSA) to Holeman, Spectra failed to install
equipment to monitor whether or not the natural gas pipeline in
question was being affected by corrosion and could not produce any
records indicating that the pipeline had, in fact, ever been tested
for corrosion or that the pipeline was even structurally sound.

So that’s what
“the pipe will be monitored 24/7” means.
Good to know.
