However, Lowndes County still has not put the proposed amendments on its website. You can see them in the board packet on the LAKE website (they are different from the draft that was in the Planning Commission packet).

But that’s only because LAKE sent an open records request for that packet and posted it. Why should the general public have to do that, when the county already showed draft amendments to the Homebuilders Association more than a month ago? We know this because the the County Manager said so in the June 12th County Commission meeting: “In addition to the Planning Commission, the amendments have also been shared with the Homebuilders Association, as our largest group of stakeholders, we’d like for them to be able to give us some feedback.”

At yesterday morning’s Work Session, Planning Consultant Jason Davenport once again claimed the preceding Planning Commission had a Public Hearing on this item. It did not. The item was on the GLPC agenda as an “Update”. The GLPC Chair asked for public comment anyway, but the usual Public Hearing convention of asking for those for and those against the item was not followed.

Certainly that item in the GLPC meeting did not follow the format of Amendment #9 Public Hearings that was in the draft presented to the County Commission on June 23, 2023.

Davenport also said yesterday morning that there was a deadline. So what was the stopgap delaying resolution they passed last time for?

That’s only two straw men, less than the four he came up with at the Planning Commission.

Gretchen remarks, “It’s almost as if someone doesn’t want the general public to know what the proposed changes are.”

Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item of yesterday morning’s Lowndes County Commission Work Session, with a few notes by Gretchen Quarterman, followed a LAKE video playlist.
