Update 2022-08-25: Videos: objections to rejection of Beasley rezoning @ LCC Regular 2022-07-26.
A very rare meeting: the Lowndes County Commission considered two rezonings, and did not approve either of them!
Two weeks ago at its Regular Session, the Commissioners tabled 8.a. REZ-2022-13 Hunter Property, Madison Hwy, E-A to C-C, ~7ac, and denied on a split vote 8.b. REZ-2022-14 Ben Beasley, River Rd. R-21 to R-A, ~13 acres. The first rezoning will be decided Tuesday evening, July 26, 2022. The second rezoning took 15 minutes, for a 40-minute meeting, which is very long for this group.
Everything else sailed through.
Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item, with a few notes by Gretchen Quarterman, followed by a LAKE video playlist. Some how, I managed not to record this bit.
6. Minutes for Approval
7.a. Appointments Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County
8.a. REZ-2022-13 Hunter Property, Madison Hwy, E-A to C-C, ~7ac
Tabled unanimously because it’s still not clear if they want 2 acres or 7 acres.
8.b. REZ-2022-14 Ben Beasley, River Rd. R-21 to R-A, ~13 acres
It was clear that this rezoning was an effort to get around having to build a road for the proposed subdivision.
The Minutes say: Vice Chairman Orenstein made a motion to approve the request as presented, the motion failed for lack of a second. Commissioner Marshall made a motion to deny this request as presented, Commissioner Griner second. Commissioners Wisenbaker, Marshall and Griner voted to deny the request, Commissioner Evans and Vice Chairman Orenstein opposed. Motion carried.
9.a. Annual Contract Renewal for Mosquito Identification and Testing
9.b. Acceptance of FY23 Juvenile Justice Incentive Grant
9.c. Abandonment of a Portion of Boring Pond Road
10. Reports -County Manager
12. Meeting Adjournment
