The interesting part was not that
ZBOA
approved everything unanimously in its September 11, 2018 meeting,
including
setbacks
for the same Stovall property at
6002 N. Oak Street Ext., Valdosta, for which
later that same day
the Lowndes County Commission
approved removal of the prohibition on personal care homes.
The news is that Lowndes County Commissioner Scottie Orenstein
stood up in a public meeting and
spelled out
at 30 minutes 47 seconds that “there was some behind-the-scenes conversation”:

This was a very long meeting and three of the cases were tabled to a future meeting:
APP-2018-03 — Federal Heath & Advantage Permits,
VAR-2018-09 — Indo American Cultural Society of South,
and because the Candidates Forum
was schedule in the same room, the very long
AAD-2018-01 — Cothron (5310 Tucker Road, Valdosta).
Three items were approved unanimously:
VAR-2018-08 — Graham (4544 Loch Laurel Road, Valdosta),
VAR-2018-10 — Loch Laurel Club (Loch Laurel Road, Valdosta),
and
VAR-2018-12 — Ramos (2703 Highway 41 South, Valdosta),
while
VAR-2018-11 — Lucia Marrero (5594 Shiloh Road, Hahira)
squeaked by on a split vote.

according to pictures submitted by neighbor Franklin J. Richards II,
built a building eight inches from another building.

ZBOA Chairman Allan Strickland was not present, so Mac McCall chaired.
However, for this first case
he recused himself, and Gretchen Quarterman chaired.

Two cases, both contentious because neighbors blew them in for code violations.

Deep South Sanitation (DSS) of Tucker Road
apparently has been using a neighboring
lot as a staging area for trash trucks without permit approval,
and there’s a complaint by Steve Edwards of Evergreen Landfill.
If I’m not mistaken, Evergreen Landfill is owned by
Advanced Disposal Services (ADS), and
this would appear to be the same Steve Edwards who has
repeatedly spoken for ADS.
Probably many readers recall, Lowndes County sued DSS on behalf of ADS
all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court before finally coming up with a
Solid Waste Ordinance that allows two trash collection services to co-exist
in Lowndes County.
