Industrial Authority board meets tonight

The Board of Directors of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority (VLCIA) meets tonight, 5:30 PM 15 March 2011 in the Industrial Authority Conference Room, 2110 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, Georgia. I hear they’re having a personnel change.

Maybe with new staff they can finally get agendas and minutes on their website, and maybe a picture of Tom Call. The picture of Call below was found elsewhere by LAKE.

I went in and delivered the Dr. Robert Bullard article on Dismantling Energy Apartheid, which documents that 82% of people in a one-mile radius of proposed Valdosta biomass incinerator are black. I talked about Valdosta black infant mortality being twice as high as white infant mortality. Often rates this disparate are due to environmental pollution. The particulate pollution (PM 2.5 and ultrafines) that would be spewed by the proposed biomass incinerator would outweigh all other sources of county industrial particulate pollution combined.
It’s really sad when a group of supposedly Christian policy makers makes egregious decisions that harm babies, children, and senior citizens. They should all be ashamed, totally ashamed.
