  • City of Valdosta:
June 27: Welcome to America’s Friendliest City! The City of Valdosta welcomes representatives today from Rand McNally and USA Today as they consider Valdosta as the Best of the Road’s Friendliest Town in America. Citizens are encouraged to turn out in big numbers this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse in Downtown Valdosta (108 East Central Avenue) for a ceremony and a presentation of the keys to the city, followed by activities similar to a First Friday event. During the day, these guests will be visiting various parts of our city, so let’s show them who’s America’s Friendliest! Click here for more information or call (229) 251-4779.
  • Kay Harris in the VDT:
On Monday this week, a team of judges from the Rand McNally/USA Today Best of the Road competition will visit Valdosta to determine if the city will be named the Friendliest City in America.

While an evening ceremony has been planned to greet the judges, no one knows where else they may go, what places they may visit, or if they will identify themselves as judges for the contest. In other words, you most likely won’t know if they walk into your business, so mind your manners.

  • Amber Eady for WALB:

The City of Valdosta wants residents to come and welcome the representatives at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse.
