(My opinion only). I moved to Lake City in 2005 and have enjoyed fishing made available by PCS/Nutrien. But it looks to me that the entire landscape of Hamilton county is being changed due to the mining and now it seems Columbia county is next in line. What will the next 50 years bring ? The answers are needed, good and bad before another shovel of dirt is moved except for research to find the answers. We do know the aquifer is effected due to many residential and irrigation wells going dry. I was told of deals being made to drill residential wells deeper to restore water supply so is this one answer. Sinkhole research also needs to be addressed.
It is more likely than not that mining in the White Spring area was the cause of the death of the White Sulphur Spring House and also causing White Springs itself to become dormant. Thanks for asking.
