About these documents

These documents were obtained from the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority (VLCIA) in January 2012 in response to an open records request by Matt Flumerfelt, and given to LAKE. They are about VLCIA's relations with its Project Excel, which is a proposed private prison in Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, for Corrections Corporation of America (CCA).

  • 2011 03 15: Competition for CCA's private prison? --Roy Copeland Col. Ricketts answered that there is another community competing, but he did not know whether they had made that payment. Brad Lofton added that the other location was in Decatur County, and that VLCIA's contract stipulated that the Lowndes County site was the primary site so they had to come here first. That VLCIA board meeting was 7 months after CCA explained to Decatur County that both counties were primary sites.
