\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nOpposition started arising to Roger Budd’s request to rezone\r\nto put another Family Dollar near Francis Lake in Lake Park,\r\nat the\r\n\r\n28 July 2014 Planning Commission meeting<\/a>,\r\nwhich voted 5 to 2 with one abstention to recommend a compromise solution.\r\n

\r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport said he had received no indications of any opposition.\r\nAnd one GLPC member asked the developer’s presenter whether residents\r\nof Francis Lake had been notified.\r\n

\r\nYet J.D. Carroll spoke against, complaining about truck traffic, lights,\r\nlessened recreational areas for an existing subdivision.\r\nAlso he did not receive a notice; the only people who received notices\r\nwere those who have property contiguous to the proposed rezoning property.\r\n

\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport said that was all the county was required\r\nto do by law.\r\nHe should remember that’s not the case: all state law requires\r\nis a sign out front and a notice in the newspaper.\r\nHe was the one who proposed to the Lowndes County Commission after\r\nwe circulated a county-wide petition asking for notices to be sent out.\r\nHe proposed sending to everybody within a fixed radius of the subject property.\r\nThe County Commission declined to do that, and decided only to send to\r\ncontiguous property owners.\r\n

\r\nRobin Miller said she didn’t feel like she got any benefit from this,\r\nand her children who got off the bus there would be affected.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x189<\/a>\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport said he thought they were there\r\nbecause of one wedge of property, and that he thought “Roger”\r\nwould prefer to buy what he needs.\r\nWhy does the County Planner habitually try to read the minds of applicants?\r\nWhy not just have them come so Commissioners can ask the applicant directly?\r\n

\r\nDavenport also said the TRC had clarified a condition about dumpsters\r\nto say it only applied to near existing residential development.\r\nAnd he clarified that who wants to use Roger Budd’s property\r\nis Family Dollar.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThere was quite a bit more discussion about dumpsters, light pollution,\r\nand other issues.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nPlanning Commissioner Willis moved for a split zoning\r\nto accomodate Family Dollar,\r\npointing to a wedge on a plat the audience couldn’t see,\r\nsaying to rezone only that to C-G, with the rest remaining R-10,\r\nplus a buffer on the east, and number 4 condition.\r\nSeconded by Bailey.\r\nNo further questions.\r\nPassed 5 to 2 with one abstaining.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
