\r\nLike the three Army bases before it, solar power from the Navy Base at Kings Bay\r\nwill go into Georgia Power’s grid.\r\nHow about Air Force bases next, such as Moody AFB?\r\nAnd how about start building 30 MW solar farms throughout the state?\r\n

\r\nCuriously, there’s no press release by either Georgia Power or the Navy\r\nabout this project.\r\n

\r\nThe U.S. Navy is working with Georgia Power Co. to build a solar\r\nenergy project at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base near St. Marys, a\r\nGeorgia Power executive announced Thursday.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe solar project would be the fourth built by the Atlanta-based\r\nutility in partnership with the military.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nGeorgia Power and the U.S. Army announced in May a plan to build\r\nthree 30-megawatt solar projects at Fort Stewart near Savannah, Fort\r\nBenning near Columbus and Fort Gordon near Augusta.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“The Navy is following the Army’s footsteps,” Norrie\r\nMcKenzie, vice president of renewable energy development for Georgia\r\nPower, told the state Public Service Commission Thursday.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThe\r\n\r\nother three 30 MW military solar projects<\/a>\r\nare\r\n\r\n“at Fort Benning near Columbus, Fort Gordon near Augusta and Fort Stewart near Savannah”<\/a>.\r\nThe Kings Bay deal seems to be as Kristi Swartz described the\r\nArmy base deal\r\n\r\nfor EnergyWire 16 May 2014<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nThe utility says all the electricity produced by the 30 MW solar\r\ngeneration projects will be delivered to the utility’s grid.\r\n“In case of service interruptions, military bases receive high\r\nattention and priority from Georgia Power from restoration efforts,”\r\nthe company said.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nSo Georgia Power is helping the military meet their renewable energy quotas.\r\nHow about also helping the economy of Georgia in general by adding\r\nmore solar farms elsewhere in the state?\r\n

\r\nAnd speaking of the Air Force, there’s\r\n\r\na 10 MW solar project at Warner Robins Air Force Base<\/a>.\r\n
