He said they received twice as many\ncomplaints from one club than all of the others combined.\n<p>\n&ldquo;The rest of the clubs have behaved themselves and acted like\nthey should,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;We hate to punish everybody for\none or two bad eggs.&rdquo;\n<p>\nVegas Night Club&#8217;s assistant manger John Thornton stated his\nbusiness wasn&#8217;t notified of the change until Feb. 22 and they were\nworried about a potential drop in business. He said that many of the\ncustomers did not arrive until after 2 a.m.\n<p>\n&ldquo;It&#8217;s just been one thing after another with us and the\ncounty. I have to say, it feels like a sucker punch,&rdquo; he said.\n<p>\nThornton said off-duty Lowndes County deputies are no longer allowed\nto be present at the nightclub, but roadblocks have been setup on\nboth sides of the club on numerous occasions.\n<\/blockquote>\nThe bar on the agenda for the March 13<small><sup>th<\/sup><\/small>\nis a different one:\n<blockquote>\n7.a. Beer, Wine, and Liquor License &mdash; Rascal&#8217;s &mdash; 4875 HWY 41\n<\/blockquote>\nBut as Chairman Paulk pointed out, Rascal&#8217;s and Vegas have the same owner.\n<p>\nWhat&#8217;s the VDT&#8217;s take on this interaction?\nDavid Rodock wrote 14 March 2012,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1690517176\/County-Board-Chairman-Paulk-cautions-bar-owners\">\nCounty Board Chairman Paulk cautions bar owners<\/a>,\n<blockquote>\nDuring a public hearing at the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners\nmeeting Tuesday for on-site consumption of alcohol, Chairman Ashley\nPaulk gave the new owner of Rascal&#8217;s some stern advice about\noperations.\n<p>\n&ldquo;I understand you all are associated with Vegas and this is an\narea where residents live close by and we expect you to respect\ntheir wishes and try and work with them,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I\npulled the records on Vegas and over the last seven months, we&#8217;ve\nhad a little over 70 911 calls where the Sheriff answered.&rdquo;\n<p>\n&ldquo;We have 120,000 people to look after and I just expect you to\nrun a clean and quiet establishment. If not, we expect the Sheriff\nto enforce the law,&rdquo; Paulk said. &ldquo;We will work with you\nin any way we can and we&#8217;d be glad to and we hope you do well with\nit, but understand the area you&#8217;re going into is a lot different\nthan what Vegas is.&rdquo;\n<p>\nWithout further comment, commissioners unanimously approved the\nlicense for consumption of alcohol on premises.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd the VDT made no further comment, either, but we can connect the\ndots back to that earlier VDT story.\n<p>\nOnce again I commend Chairman Paulk for his interest in local\ngovernment transparency, since without him mentioning it,\nwe the public wouldn&#8217;t have known the two bars had the same owner,\nseeing as the county\ndoesn&#8217;t yet publish the details of such applications with the agenda\nbefore they vote on them.\nI look forward to the county publishing such details.\n<p>\nSpeaking of transparency, the ordinance as amended 14 February 2012\nis\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/lowndes%20county%20alcoholic%20beverage%20ordinance%202012.pdf\">\non the county&#8217;s website.<\/a>\nCongratulations to the county on publishing the alcohol ordinance!\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A month ago (28 February 2012), Chairman Ashley Paulk chastised the VDT for how it reported on recent changes to the alcohol ordinance.
