\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nCitizens are not convinced EPA, GA-EPD, and GA Dept. of Health\r\nare doing enough to find what’s causing widespread sickness and death\r\nin Waycross, GA.\r\nThey asked questions and provided data and anecdotes for more than\r\nan hour, demanding more testing and answers, at a meeting\r\nabout the Seven Out Superfund and other air and water contamination,\r\nfor example from CSX and AGL.\r\n

\r\nGeorgia Department of Health did\r\n\r\noffer a new survey<\/a>, with local help.\r\nShe also offered to send a local health dept. rep. right out whenever\r\nthey were alerted a certain site stunk after rains.\r\nEPA and GA-EPD admitted there was a problem and said they were\r\ntrying to fix it,\r\nwhich is a step forward from\r\n\r\ntheir preliminary Waycross meeting last November<\/a>.\r\nBut not a big enough step or quick enough to satisfy Waycross people who are or\r\nwho know many who are sick or dying.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThey asked very insightful questions, about\r\nchildren exposed daily everywhere they go<\/a>,\r\nsynergistic effects<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\nwhether the agencies had actually found anybody sick from these chemicals<\/a>,\r\nabout\r\nunsellable property<\/a>,\r\n\r\nsurface water contamination<\/a>\r\nthat might affect the\r\n\r\nSatilla River<\/a>,\r\n\r\nwell testing, when, where, rainfall or not<\/a>,\r\nand\r\n\r\nvs. city water<\/a>,\r\n\r\nlandfills used to dispose of contaminated soil<\/a>,\r\nand many more.\r\nJoan M. Tibor had even\r\n\r\nrented an instrument and done her own testing<\/a>,\r\nbut her results\r\n\r\nwere pooh-poohed by EPA<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nSure, it’s a hard problem, as I mentioned to GA-EPD\r\nafterwards, but as I mentioned to GA-EPD afterwards,\r\nthey’ve got a very willing public ready to help.\r\n
