\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nSCAD or VSU?\r\nHistorical Society or Public Defender?\r\nBusiness incubator or state offices?\r\nOutside and inside.\r\nThese and other ideas were brought up in the first of\r\n\r\nthree Courthouse Preservation Committee meetings<\/a>, 9 June 2014.\r\n

\r\n\r\nBaha Zeidan<\/a> and\r\n\r\nVarian Brown<\/a> wanted a business incubator.\r\n\r\nJudge Ellerbee<\/a> said the way the courthouse got into a mess in the first place\r\nwas people wanting to use it for many things in addition to courtrooms,\r\nand he suggested not going the same route again.\r\n\r\nPat Sullivan suggested<\/a> bringing in\r\n\r\nSCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design)<\/a>\r\nand having them design the building before renting it as a local campus.\r\n\r\nStanley Cox<\/a> seconded that.\r\nSullivan even volunteered his oldest downtown Valdosta building, home of ClientTell,\r\nfor planning meetings.\r\n\r\nGretchen Quarterman<\/a>\r\nsaid to be sure Valdosta Farm Days, Juneteenth, and all the other\r\ncourthouse lawn events still can happen in conjunction with whatever\r\nhappens inside,\r\n\r\nG. Norman Bennett<\/a> said it would be a natural location for the Historical Society.\r\nGlenn Gregory\r\n\r\ntold stories of historic preservation and suggested\r\nVSU<\/a>, state offices, or the Public Defender,\r\nplus he noted there’s\r\n\r\nanother courthouse by the same architect, in Abbeville, GA<\/a>.\r\nThey even let somebody speak who hadn’t signed up:\r\n\r\nValdosta Mayor John Gayle<\/a>, who cautioned that the longer it sits,\r\nthe more it deteriorates.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
