\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nPolitiFact Rhode Island\r\n\r\nexamined 6 July 2014<\/a>\r\na claim by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of 27 May 2014\r\nand found that:\r\n

\r\nSen. Sheldon Whitehouse said that solar industry jobs have now\r\noutpaced coal-mining jobs.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe most recent data from three objective sources support his claim.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe one source that offered a contrary view, the National Mining\r\nAssociation, cited two-year-old numbers and counted categories such\r\nas off-site transportation workers on coal barges and ocean\r\nfreighters.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nBecause Whitehouse’s statement was specifically about coal-mining\r\njobs, we rule it True.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWe\r\n\r\nalready knew that<\/a>,\r\nbut PolitiFact dredged up at least one extra source to confirm it.\r\n

\r\nAnd remember, there are also\r\n\r\nmore solar jobs than “production and nonsupervisory jobs”\r\nin oil and gas extraction<\/a>,\r\naccording to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ numbers for oil and gas.\r\nIf snowy Buffalo, a thousand miles and a dozen degrees of latitude\r\nnorth of here can\r\n\r\nland thousands of solar jobs<\/a>,\r\nwe should be able to here in south Georgia, too.\r\n
