Roy Barnes and ex-Republican House Speaker Glenn Richardson to go forward.\n<p>The complaint said Georgia Power has improperly collected sales tax and fees on a surcharge created by a 2009 law. They say it has added up to as much as $100 million in costs to ratepayers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This lawsuit opposes <a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/barnes-and-richardson-against-georgia-powers-cwip.html\"> Georgia Power&#8217;s Construction Work in Progress (CWIP)<\/a> that is already charging gapower customers for the Plant Vogtle nukes that won&#8217;t produce any power for years yet. If this lawsuit wins, they may not ever be built.<\/p>\n<p>But you don&#8217;t have to wait for this lawsuit, or for <a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/how-to-ban-cwip-in-georgia.html\"> the legislature to ban CWIP.<\/a> You can oppose CWIP by <a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/separate-cwip-payments-to-georgia-power-wace-call-for-action.html\"> paying for it in a separate check.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maybe soon we can get rid of Georgia Power&#8217;s territoriality law so we can, like we could in 46 other states, <a href=\"\/blog\/category\/lrclcc-2012-02-17\"> generate our own solar or wind power and sell it to whomever we choose.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Historic Davids get approval for slingshot against power company Goliath.
