\r\nWhat would happen if VSU applied for such a research grant?\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nAccording to its own PR of 19 June 2014,\r\n\r\nBinghamton University receives $12.8 million for innovative energy research<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nThe NorthEast Center for Chemical Energy Storage (NECCES) at\r\nBinghamton University has been awarded a $12.8 million, four-year\r\ngrant, announced Wednesday by U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.\r\nOne of 32 grants awarded for a total of $100 million to fund Energy\r\nFrontier Research Centers (EFRCs), it will help accelerate the\r\nscientific breakthroughs needed to build a new 21st-century energy\r\neconomy.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nOne of 32 grants?\r\nSome EFRC\r\n\r\npartner institutions<\/a> are Georgia Tech, University of Florida,\r\nand Florida International University.\r\nJust like Binghamton is a partner institution for Stony Brook University.\r\nThose centers were selected from more than 200 proposals from\r\nacross the country<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nI wonder what would happen if somebody at VSU applied?\r\nLike Georgia Tech applied and became a\r\nFY 2014 EFRC<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nSure, VSU isn’t Georgia Tech.\r\nBut maybe it could be a partner institution.\r\nMaybe there’s somebody who’s done renewable energy research, maybe including\r\n\r\npatenting (WO2003079480 A1)<\/a>\r\nan\r\nenzyme-based photoelectrochemical cell for production of renewable energy<\/a>\r\nalso published as\r\n\r\n“Enzyme-based Photoelectrochemical Biofuel Cell”<\/a>,\r\nde la Garza, L.; Jeong, G.; Liddell, P. A.; Sotomura, T.; Moore, T. A.;\r\nMoore, A. L.; Gust, D. J. Phys. Chem. B, 2003, 107, 10252-10260.\r\nlike\r\n\r\nAssociate Professor of Chemistry Linda De la Garza<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI have no idea whether that would be the kind of thing DoE\r\nis interested in, or whether she’d be interested.\r\nMy point is merely that maybe VSU has potential worth exploring.\r\n
