\r\n\r\n\"300x273<\/a>\r\nIn accordance with Section 12-8-24(d) of the Georgia Comprehensive\r\nSolid Waste Management Act, the Board of Commissioners of Lowndes\r\nCounty gives notice of a public hearing to be held at 5:30 p.m. on\r\nJuly 17, 2014, in Chambers of the Board of Commissioners in the\r\nLowndes County Judicial and Administrative Complex, located at 327\r\nNorth Ashley Street, Valdosta, Georgia. The purpose of the hearing\r\nis to receive public comments regarding the issuance by the Georgia\r\nEnvironmental Protection Division of a proposed modification to the\r\nsolid waste handling permit for an expansion of the existing\r\nEvergreen Municipal Solid Waste Landfill located off Wetherington\r\nLane in Lowndes County, Georgia, requested by Advanced Disposal\r\nServices Evergreen Landfill, Inc., for the purpose of modifying the\r\nboundaries and waste disposal capacity of that solid waste handling\r\nfacility.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nHere’s\r\n\r\nthe law the public notice cites<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x273<\/a>\r\n§12-8-24(d) If the director determines that such activity will result in any\r\nviolation of this part or any rule or regulation promulgated\r\npursuant to this part, he shall deny the permit; otherwise, he shall\r\nissue the permit, specifying on the permit the conditions under\r\nwhich such activity shall be conducted; provided, however, that a\r\npublic hearing shall be held by the governing authority of the\r\ncounty or municipality in which the municipal solid waste or special\r\nsolid waste handling shall occur not less than two weeks prior to\r\nthe issuance of any permit under this Code section and notice of\r\nsuch hearing shall be posted at the proposed site and advertised in\r\na newspaper of general circulation serving the county or counties in\r\nwhich the proposed activity will be conducted at least 30 days prior\r\nto such hearing.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThe County Commission staff\r\nused to at least mention landfill permit modifications\r\nin their Work Sessions, as in this from\r\n21 February 2011<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n\r\nVeolia Evergreen Landfill — EPD Solid Waste Handling Permit Modification,<\/strong>\r\nCounty Planner, Jason Davenport, stated this amendment is aimed at\r\nmodifying Veolia’s permit for the new Evergreen portion of the\r\nlandfill to allow for waste solidification. No action is required\r\nfrom the commission other than to hold and host public hearing. Ken\r\nMullins, General Manager for Veolia, was present to answer any\r\ntechnical questions.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nMaybe they didn’t want questions at that public hearing\r\nthat they didn’t advertise 30 days in advance nor list on\r\ntheir own website nor mention in their own public meetings.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x273<\/a>\r\nQuestions such as which of the several tracts the Lowndes County\r\nTax Assessor has with Evergreen in the name on Wetherington Lane,\r\nranging from\r\n0058 082E ADS Evergreen Landfill, Inc.<\/a> east of that road\r\n(with mailing address 90 FORT WADE ROAD, SUITE 200, PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL 32081)\r\nto\r\n0058 002A Onyx Evergreen Landfill Inc<\/a> 2995 Wetherington Lane,\r\nto\r\n\r\n0058 002B Veolia ES Evergreen Landfill Inc.<\/a> right on the Withlacoochee River\r\n(address 125 S 84TH ST SUITE 200, MILWAUKEE, WI 53214)\r\nsurrounding Valdosta’s notorious\r\n\r\n0058 001 Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant<\/a>?\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x273<\/a>\r\nWhy worry?\r\nThis is only the same company (ADS owns Veolia aka Onyx) that runs the\r\n0058 004 Veolia ES Pecan Row Landfill LLC<\/a>\r\nthat was\r\n\r\nfined $27,500 by GA EPD for PCBs\r\nand accepted TVA coal ash and wastewater from the Waycross\r\nSeven Out Superfund site.<\/a>\r\nAnd that is in\r\n\r\na recharge zone for the Floridan Aquifer we all drink out of<\/a>.\r\n
