\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe Lowndes County Historical Courthouse Preservation Committee will\r\nhost a series of public input meetings, beginning next week. The\r\nmeetings are being held in an effort to gather any ideas citizens\r\nmay have regarding possible future uses for the historic Lowndes\r\nCounty Courthouse. Once the information is gathered, the committee\r\nwill present their recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.\r\nNext week’s meeting schedule is as follows:\r\nMonday, June 9, 6:00\r\np.m.; Tuesday, June 10, 3:00 p.m.; Thursday, June 12, 1:00 p.m. All\r\nmeetings will be held in Commission Chambers, Lowndes County\r\nAdministrative Building, 327 North Ashley Street, Valdosta.<\/strong> For more\r\ninformation, please contact Amanda Smith, at 229-671-2400 or\r\n\r\nasmith@lowndescounty.com<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe VDT has more details today,\r\n\r\nPublic hearings to review historic Lowndes courthouse<\/a>,\r\n

\r\n

\r\nConstruction began on the historic courthouse in 1904 and the\r\nbuilding was open to the public in 1905.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAfter serving the citizens of Lowndes County for more than 100\r\nyears, the building was vacated after the completion of the Lowndes\r\nCounty Judicial Complex.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nSince, the Lowndes County Historical Preservation Committee has been\r\nworking with county officials to secure funding for needed\r\nmaintenance and restoration. Two-million dollars in SPLOST\r\nallocations was approved by voters with the passage of SPLOST VII.\r\nThe preservation committee is ready to move forward with the\r\nproject.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nNone of these writeups seem to mention all the other uses of the Courthouse,\r\nsuch as Valdosta Farm Days, the 100 Black Men BBQ, as a backdrop for\r\nthe march against school consolidation and for Occupy Valdosta, etc.\r\nBut of course the inside<\/em> of the courthouse is the main point\r\nof the upcoming meetings.\r\nHm, I wonder if there are any uses that could combine the outside\r\nand inside?\r\n
