\r\nCurious how sinkholes get reported throughout the\r\nFloridan Aquifer in Florida and south Georgia yet seldom\r\ndo the stories mention the aquifer and its porous limestone.\r\n

\r\nSeveral sinkholes have opened up in Alachua County.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe sinkholes are on a private property in the Jonesville area. They\r\nvary in size and at least three are visible from the fence at the\r\nproperty line.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe largest of the sinkholes is located on the edge of a retention\r\npond. Alachua County Environmental Protection Director Chris Bird\r\ntold Action News it was created by heavy rainfall.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n“Created by” heavy rainfall?\r\nSeems like something is probably happening underground\r\nto contribute to that.\r\nLike pumping water out.\r\n
