Therefore, we estimate that the\r\nland requirements for a solar project that could produce 26,882 MW of\r\npower would range between 1,991 and 5,974 acres of permanent disturbance.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2IGYdovCWUQ\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/2IGYdovCWUQ\/mqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nAt the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/videos-moultrie-ferc-scoping-meeting-ferc-2014-03-05.html\">\r\nFERC Scoping Meeting in Moultrie, Georgia<\/a> 5 March 2014,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/03\/05\/ferc-refuses-to-release-rfp-for-environmental-contractor\/\">\r\nonce again<\/a> I\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2IGYdovCWUQ\">\r\nasked to see the RFP and proposals by which the environmental assessment\r\ncontractor, Merjent, was selected<\/a>.\r\nJohn Peconom of FERC once again refused to release\r\nthose documents, and said the contractor is funded by the pipeline companies.\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nThe contractor is funded by the applicant and works at our\r\ndirection.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThen that contractor gave an acreage figure for the pipeline project.\r\nYou can hear him in\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AzOu3Lc0A-U\">\r\nthe LAKE video<\/a>.\r\nAccording to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/elibrary.ferc.gov\/idmws\/file_list.asp?accession_num=20140407-4004\">\r\nFERC&#8217;s transcript<\/a> (I added the images and links),\r\nhe said:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AzOu3Lc0A-U\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/AzOu3Lc0A-U\/mqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nMR. SHIELDS:\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\nGood evening.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAs John and Kevin indicated, my name is Mitchell Shields and I&#8217;m\r\ngoing to be working for John in preparing this environmental impact\r\nstatement.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/22\/ferc-notice-of-intent-for-environmental-impact-statement-and-scoping-meetings\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/media.cmgdigital.com\/shared\/lt\/lt_cache\/thumbnail\/275\/img\/photos\/2013\/10\/24\/fd\/71\/WEB_pipeline.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nYou know, what we wanted to do right now is give you all an\r\nunderstanding of the scope of the projects that will be evaluated in\r\nthe EIS. So what we will be evaluating is called the Southeast\r\nMarket Pipelines project, or SMP. It actually consists of three\r\nseparate but related projects that are going to be evaluated in one\r\nEIS document under NEPA.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe main project that we&#8217;re going to be talking about tonight that\r\nwe&#8217;re looking for comments on or expecting comments is related to\r\nthe\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-1-sabal-trail-transmission\/\">\r\nSabal Trail project<\/a>, which is proposed by Sabal Trail\r\nTransmission LLC. The other two projects are known as &mdash;\r\nthey&#8217;re called the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-2-florida-southeast-connection\/\">\r\nFlorida Southeast Connection project<\/a> and the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-6-hillabee-expansion-project\/\">\r\nHillabee Expansion project<\/a>, also known as FSC or Hillabee Expansion.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-6-hillabee-expansion-project\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2013-11-04-filing-009-300x194.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThis map shows how the projects are related to each other in the\r\nsoutheastern United States. Up in Alabama &mdash; oops, wrong button\r\n&mdash; is the Hillabee Expansion project, which consists of new\r\npipeline and new compression facilities along an existing system\r\n&mdash; excuse me, new pipeline loop and new compression.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-2-florida-southeast-connection\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3673\/10532063393_c3972d08c8_n.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nDown in the lower central part of Florida is the Florida Southeast\r\nConnection project. And in between is the Sabal Trail project, which\r\nconsists of &mdash; well, let me back up here.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nFlorida Southeast Connection includes just new pipeline. Sabal Trail\r\nis new pipeline, new compression, and two laterals. One is called\r\nthe Citrus County line and the other is the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/content.sabaltrailtransmission.com\/ProjectByState\/pdf\/fl\/osceolahunters.pdf\">\r\nHunter Creek line<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHe didn&#8217;t say, but according to\r\nKevin Spear in the Orlando Sentinel 10 December 2013,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/ferc\/pf14-1-sabal-trail-transmission\/update-2013-11-15\/draft-resource-report-1\/detail-maps-main-proposed-pipeline-path-by-sabal-trail\/kissimmee-and-hunters-creek-hunters-creek-pipeline-osceola-and-orange-county-florida-in-general-project-description-by-spectrabusters-for-ferc-docket-no-pf14-1-000-15-november-2013-converted\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/resource-178-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/articles.orlandosentinel.com\/2013-12-10\/news\/os-gas-pipeline-public-hearings-20131210_1_spectra-energy-proposed-pipeline-florida-gas-transmission-co\">\r\nPublic meetings set for proposed natural gas line<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\n\r\nAlso to be connected to the end of the Sabal Trail pipe is a\r\nproposed pipeline called the Hunters Creek Line that would extend 14\r\nmiles to connect in Orange County with the state&#8217;s largest pipeline,\r\nwhich belongs to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/?s=florida+gas+transmission\">\r\nFlorida Gas Transmission Co. LLC<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/05\/24\/duke-gas-plants-to-be-fueled-by-sabal-trail-fracked-methane\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/resource-186-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThe Citrus County Pipeline is the one to feed\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/05\/24\/duke-gas-plants-to-be-fueled-by-sabal-trail-fracked-methane\/\">\r\nDuke Energy&#8217;s Crystal River fracked methane power plant<\/a>.\r\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/?p=2819\">Or will it<\/a>?)\r\n<p>\r\nBut finally to Merjent&#8217;s acreage point:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\n\r\nWhen combined in total these projects would impact approximately\r\n13,670 acres of land with temporary construction impacts that \r\nwould\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sabaltrailtransmission.com\/faqs\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/content.sabaltrailtransmission.com\/images\/sidebar3.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n\r\nbe associated with what&#8217;s typically between 100 and 110 feet of\r\nconstruction right-of-way in uplands and 75 feet in wetlands. And\r\nafter they&#8217;re through they would require approximately 4,320 acres\r\nto maintain the pipeline and above-ground facilities for operation.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHe neglected to mention that 100-foot RoW requires tearing down\r\nevery tree.\r\nThat would be permanent disturbance as far as the lifetimes of\r\nmany of the people attending that Moultrie FERC Scoping Meeting.\r\nEven his low-end estimate of 4,320 acres is more than\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/27\/sabal-trail-solar-and-wind-misinformation\/\">\r\nmy previous estimate of 3,030 acres for the pipeline<\/a>, presumably because Merjent&#8217;s Sheilds included the offshoot pipelines and he had better mileage counts.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSo, 13,670 acres for the pipeline project is more than twice the 5,974\r\nacres Sabal Trail&#8217;s RR10 said would be required for solar PV.\r\nComparing low ranges, 4,320 is more than twice 1,991.\r\nAnd those numbers are all from STT or from STT&#8217;s preferred contractor.\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/27\/sabal-trail-solar-and-wind-misinformation\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"https:\/\/evbdn.eventbrite.com\/s3-s3\/eventlogos\/30322607\/elmcity02428329.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nWhy would we want a dangerous, dirty, property-taking fracked methane pipeline\r\nwhen we can go directly to clean, safe, no-fuel solar power,\r\nand have it installed faster and cheaper with local power and local jobs?\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"According to Sabal Trail&#8217;s own numbers, twice as much land for the entire three-pipeline Spectra -> Sabal -> FSC proposed gouge through three states as would be required to produce as much solar power.
