\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nEver wonder what goes into the few seconds of video you see on TV news?\r\nAs I promised reporter Colter Anstaetts when\r\nhe interviewed\r\nGretchen for WALB TV Friday May 2nd<\/a> about\r\n\r\nValdosta Farm Days<\/a> (coming up again this Saturday 9AM to 1PM\r\nat the historic Lowndes County Courthouse in Valdosta),\r\nhere’s The Making Of…, including\r\nbirds singing<\/a>,\r\ndogs rolling in the grass<\/a>,\r\nBrown Dog\r\n\r\nfrolicking<\/a> and\r\n\r\nbouncing<\/a> across,\r\nYellow Dog<\/a> prancing, red potatoes<\/a>, and \r\nred, white, and blue corn<\/a>\r\nat Okra Paradise Farms<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAfter some initial discussion about where we were and what was growing,\r\nGretchen showed Colter Anstaetts\r\na red potato in the ground<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\nEvery TV interview starts with\r\n\r\nthe interviewee having to spell their name<\/a>.\r\nThen the reporter \r\nasked questions at much greater length<\/a> than what you see on TV.\r\nPlus he had his camera zoomed in on Gretchen,\r\nas you can see in the\r\npicture below from the WALB article<\/a>,\r\nso he didn’t even\r\nsee the dogs strolling across.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI’m definitely looking forward to Valdosta Farm Days.\r\nIt’s an excellent opportunity for farmers not only to sell,\r\nbut for local people to get local fresh foods.\r\nAnd when we buy from local farmers, we support the local economy.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThe reporter asked if it was just big farmers;\r\nhe’d heard that from Jake Price, Lowndes County Extension Agent.\r\nGretchen volunteers at the Lowndes County Extension office<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n

<\/a>\r\nIt’s an excellent opportunity for farms of all sizes.\r\nJake is right though.\r\nBig commercial farmers have commercial outlets\r\nand lots of them aren’t growing vegetables for commercial sale.\r\nSo it is small farmers.\r\n

\r\nAnd the thing that’s really great about it is it’s downtown Valdosta\r\nand people can get local food available to them, fresh.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHe asked if it’s every year.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nOh, we have it every year.\r\nIt starts on the first weekend in May.\r\nWe’re on the first and third Saturdays.\r\nIt goes through October.\r\nAnd this is our third year.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nGretchen modestly didn’t mention that\r\n\r\nshe played a role<\/a>\r\nin making Valdosta Farm Days hapen\r\nby\r\nhelping get cats and dogs to play together at the Lowndes County Commission\r\nand the Valdosta City Council<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWALB reporter Colter Anstaetts\r\nasked how many people show up at Valdosta Farm Days.\r\nGretchen answered\r\n\r\nas Brown Dog bounced across<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nLots of people still don’t know about it,\r\nso I’m really glad you’re telling them about it.\r\nBut we do have lots of repeat customers.\r\nPeople who like our products and come back year after year.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHe wanted to know what folks look forward to.\r\nShe replied\r\n\r\nas Yellow Dog pranced across<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nWell, I look forward to getting things that I don’t grow myself.\r\nSo not only am I selling things that other people don’t sell,\r\nbut I can then buy from other people and get things that I don’t grow.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHe asked about all the recent rain.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe rain doesn’t really have too much impact on it.\r\nIf it doesn’t rain then we have to water.\r\nIf it’s raining, that’s good for us.\r\nWe’re right on track right now.\r\nWe planted on time.\r\nWe had some warm days after we planted.\r\nSo we’re right on track.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHe asked what other things?\r\n

\r\n

\r\nPeople should come on down.\r\nEven if it’s raining, we’ll be there,\r\nso come on down.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nGretchen also showed the reporter\r\n\r\nred, white, and blue corn<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\nhow to shell corn<\/a>\r\nwhile\r\n\r\nchecking every ear for quality<\/a>.\r\n
