\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThey vote tomorrow evening on paying for an emergency road fix\r\nand several discrepencies.\r\nJames Road\r\n\r\ndropped 10 inches in 48 hours<\/a> in front of Westside Elementary School,\r\ndue to faulty road construction in 2008.\r\nAlso due to that same hasty 2008 James Road widening and realignment\r\nfor the\r\n\r\nJames Road second mall and massive subdivision mega-project<\/a>\r\nthat never happened,\r\nthere is\r\n\r\nExcess Right of Way on James Rd & Riverside Dr.<\/a>\r\nthat the County Engineer wants to quit claim and give back to the neighboring\r\nlandowners.\r\nIn other discrepencies, MIDS, Inc. found three in its contract of last year\r\nand wants a\r\n\r\nTransportation Service Contract Addendum<\/a>\r\nto fix the work the county didn’t check.\r\nA Commissioner wanted to know why\r\n\r\nthe three bids for a lift station pump varied so much<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAirport Authority Chairman Steve Everett wants to be\r\n\r\nreappointed for another four-year term<\/a>.\r\nThe 911 center has\r\n\r\nsurplus items<\/a> out back it wants to sell off.\r\nCounty staff want to abandon\r\n\r\nOld Statenville Road SE<\/a>\r\nbecause they say only seven cars a day use it and there are no houses on it.\r\nNobody had any questions about the\r\n\r\na beer license<\/a>.\r\n

        \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nCounty Manager Joe “Mr. Mumbles” Pritchard said (you can hear him if you crank the sound way up) Steve Everett wants to be reappointed to VLCAA, and it’s a four year term.\r\nCommissioners had no questions.\r\nMr. Everett, whom Mr. Mumbles did not mention\r\n\r\nis the Chair of the Airport Authority<\/a>,\r\ndid not appear.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nUtilities Director Mike Allen said the church wants to add an addition\r\nto their existing building which would take away the septic tank,\r\nso they need to be connected to county services.\r\nHe said “Mr. Harrington” was in the audience for questions,\r\nbut Commissioners had no questions for him.\r\nPresumably that’s\r\n\r\nRobbie Harrington, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Park<\/a>,\r\nbut why should we have to go look that up?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

        2. \r\n\r\nDeclaration of Surplus Items and Authorization to Dispose<\/a>\r\n\"b.<\/a>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\n911 Director Danny Weeks said he wanted\r\n“permission to get rid of a bunch of stuff we’ve had stored out behind\r\nthe 911 center for a while.”\r\nThe Chairman told the Commissioners they had a list of the stuff\r\nin their packets.\r\nI guess the public can wait for the yard sale to find out what the stuff is.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

        3. \r\n\r\nTransportation Service Contract Addendum<\/a>\r\n\"Transportation<\/a>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nIt’s for the 311 contract with MIDS, Inc.\r\nMIDS found three inconsistencies in\r\nthe contract the county approved last year,\r\nand he was proposing to fix those inconsistencies at no cost to the county.\r\nHe didn’t say, but they approved it\r\n12 November 2013<\/a>.\r\nIt’s a good thing MIDS checked the County Engineer’s work.\r\nMaybe somebody at the county should\r\n\r\ncheck our work<\/a>.\r\nThese discrepencies didn’t cost anything, but all those\r\nchange orders<\/a> do.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

        4. \r\n\r\nAbandonment of Old Statenville Road SE<\/a>\r\n\"Abandonment<\/a>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nCounty Engineer said there are no houses on that part of the road\r\nand it’s owned by Langdale Company on both sides.\r\n

          \r\nCommissioner Joyce Evans asked if there was traffic on that road.\r\nAnswer: “Last traffic count… seven cars a day.”\r\n

          \r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall asked if when Boring Pond Road was paved\r\nwould more traffic appear on Old Statenville Road?\r\nAnswer: Engineer thought the paving would cause people to stay on Boring Pond Road.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

        5. \r\n\r\nAbandon Excess Right of Way on James Rd & Riverside Dr.<\/a>\r\n\"Abandon<\/a>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nYes, it is because of that failed James Road development.\r\nCounty Engineer Mike Fletcher said:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

          \r\nWhen James Road was realigned a couple of years back, along with Riverside,\r\nthere was some excess right of way that was left on.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

          \r\nHe proposed quit-claiming the excess and giving it back to the adjoining\r\nlandowners, the Payne and Smith families.\r\n

        6. \r\n\r\nBeer License — OMHARI Corp. — 4593 N. Valdosta Rd.<\/a>\r\n\"Beer<\/a>\r\n

          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nFinance Director Stephanie Black said it was the usual.\r\nNo questions.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

            \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nUtilities Director Mike Allen said they got\r\nthree bids, and\r\nRandy Plumbing had low bid of $131,059.68.\r\n

            \r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know why there was “such a gap”\r\nin the bids.\r\nWe have no idea what that gap is, since he didn’t \r\nsay what the other bids were, and we don’t get to\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

          2. \r\n\r\nReports-County Manager<\/a>\r\n\"Report<\/a>\r\n

            \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nJames Road in front of West Side School\r\ndropped 10 inches in about 48 hours.\r\nOriginally thought it might be a link in the sanitary sewer,\r\nbut digging in there was no leak in the sanitary sewer, storm sewer,\r\nor water main, and it was due to unsuitable materials in the hole.\r\n

            \r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThey did a compaction test in 2008, but it didn’t detect that.\r\nRecent rains caused it to settle.\r\n“Scruggs is out there right now”, expecting to have it paved today\r\nfor one entrance to the school, and the other tomorrow.\r\n

            \r\nCounty Manager said they were declaring it an emergency situation\r\nand they’d have a cost tomorrow.\r\nMaybe the county could check road contractors’ work better.\r\nThere was a one-year guarantee by the contractor, but 2008\r\nwas more than one year ago, so the county gets to pay for it.\r\nCounty Manager said it would come out of the contingency fund.\r\n

            \r\nIt might also be worth checking more before signing up for\r\nbig projects for out-of-state developers like that 2007\r\n\r\nJames Road second mall and massive subdivision mega-project<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
