\n\n<\/a>\nMary Gooding spoke up for VSU at\n\nthe Industrial Authority 19 February 2013<\/a>,\nsaying that\nVSU President McKinney was\nin Athens (as was President Perrin of Wiregrass), but he and\nVSU:\n<\/p>\n

\nWe too believe that this is a huge strategic initiative for our community.\nAnd we were thrilled after the meeting that we attended that\nthe city, the county, both educational institutions, the Industrial\nAuthority, everyone there, the hospital for sure, all agreed\nthat this had to be a significant incentive.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nMary Gooding\n\nadded:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nAt Valdosta State it’s becoming one of our biggest road barriers to\nonline degrees, to online classes.\nThat’s again more bandwidth that’s needed to be able to deliver\ndegrees and classes online.\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nThat’s all good, but where were the superintendents and school boards\nof the two K-12 school systems?\nWhere were library\n\n\nusers and staff and\nthe\n\nlibrary board that doesn’t seem to like the Internet bringing\ntransparency to their own meetings?<\/a>\nWhere was\n\nIdelle Dear<\/a>,\nwho previously explained to the Lowndes County Commission that:\n<\/p>\n

\nMany people use the library who can’t afford Internet at home. They use\nit for filling out job applications, for doing homework… many uses\nof the Internet…. And of course there are a lot of people who check\nout books, check out DVDs, use the meeting rooms constantly, and there\nare all the education programs for the children. So the library is very\nmuch needed and very important for the community.\n<\/blockquote>\nWhere were the\n\nVLCIA focus group participants<\/a> who brought this issue\nto the Industrial Authority’s attention last summer?\nThis isn’t an initiative that closed-room meetings is going to make\nstrategic.\nIf it’s for the community, it needs to involve the community.\n

\nAnd unfortunately it’s clear that much of what Mary Gooding\nsaid wasn’t heard;\nsee\n\nnext post.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n
