\r\n<\/a>\r\nVSU is with the big schools, leading the stigmatization of fossil fuel\r\ncompanies and the exodus from those stranded assets.\r\nStudents are leading on that and related issues,\r\nmore than our local elected bodies, but there’s an election going on.\r\n

\r\nValdosta students marched to deliver over 500 petition signatures to their president Dr. McKinney.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\nMore people in the pictures of VSU than in the ones for Yale….\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nNot more than in the Harvard pictures, but then\r\nHarvard did start this fossil fuel divestment movement<\/a>,\r\nand now VSU is right up there with them.\r\nIt’s not about how much fossil fuel stock VSU owns.\r\nIt’s about making it socially unacceptable to buy from stigmatized companies,\r\nand\r\n\r\nit’s working faster for fossil fuels than it did for apartheid<\/a>.\r\nBetter bail out of those\r\nstranded assets<\/a> now.\r\n

\r\nGo SAVE<\/a>!\r\nIt’s time for\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nFossil Free Valdosta<\/a>.\r\nMaybe that new\r\nVSU special committee on sustainability<\/a>\r\nwill help\r\n\r\nthe VSU Foundation<\/a>\r\nfinally decide to do the right thing,\r\nlike\r\n\r\nthe VSU Faculty Senate<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\nthe VSU Student Government Association<\/a> already did.\r\n

\r\nOh, and like the VSU Spectator said,\r\n\r\nno fracked methane pipeline<\/a>: it’s just too risky.\r\nVSU students are leading on these interrelated issues\r\nmuch more than our local elected bodies.\r\nMaybe we need\r\n\r\nsome new elected officials<\/a> to help with that.\r\n
