My sliding glass door\r\nwas like an oven. People were running out in their underwear. It was\r\nbedlam. People running and falling, kids naked. I felt like an\r\nanimal running scared for my life.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nOn the morning of March 23, 1994,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/21\/spectras-durham-woods-apartment-fire-edison-nj-1994\/\">\r\na Texas Eastern Transmission gas\r\npipeline erupted next to an apartment complex in Edison, New Jersey<\/a>.\r\nThe chaos that ensued resulted in $25 million in damage and left 128\r\nfamilies without homes.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/22\/ferc-notice-of-intent-for-environmental-impact-statement-and-scoping-meetings\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/smpp-small.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nNow, Texas Eastern Transmission&#8217;s parent company, Spectra Energy\r\nCorp.,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/02\/22\/ferc-notice-of-intent-for-environmental-impact-statement-and-scoping-meetings\/\">\r\nwants to build a pipeline that will cut straight through\r\nValdosta&#8217;s backyard<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSpectra Energy is engaged in joint-venture with NextEra Energy to\r\nconstruct the $3 billion Sabal Trail pipeline.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nIt goes on to mention central Florida&#8217;s Green Swamp and the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwals.net\/2013\/08\/25\/floridan-aquifer-vsu-class-paper\/\">\r\nFlorida[n] Aquifer<\/a>.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwals.net\/2013\/08\/25\/floridan-aquifer-vsu-class-paper\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/water.usgs.gov\/ogw\/aquiferbasics\/images\/ext_floridan.gif\"><\/a>\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/contact\/counties-and-cities\/georgia-counties-and-cities\/#Colquitt County\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3693\/10532762455_007dd78e23_m.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n&ldquo;My mom and dad taught us that we are the caretakers of our\r\nland, and I feel if we don&#8217;t protect our land &mdash; protect our\r\nwater and our ecosystem &mdash; we&#8217;re going to lose it,&rdquo;\r\nRoselyn Beasley Bridges, property owner in Mitchell, Worth, Colquitt\r\nand Dougherty counties, said in an interview with the Albany Herald.\r\n&ldquo;Every person in this region who turns on a faucet and gets a\r\nglass of pure, clear drinking water should thank God. And that, more\r\nthan anything, is what I feel is at stake here.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAfter rehearsing Spectra&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/hazards\/spectra-safety-violations\/\">\r\n&#8220;spotty safety record&#8221;<\/a> and the\r\necosystems the pipeline would cross, the Spectator summarizes:\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=6996\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NCM_0164.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n&#8220;the risks are just too great&#8221;.\r\n<p>\r\nThe editorial concludes:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nVSU students, find your voice. Write to <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/contact\/counties-and-cities\/georgia-counties-and-cities\/\">\r\nyour local state\r\nrepresentatives<\/a>, and let them know that it is time to usher in a new\r\nage of renewable energy.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThere&#8217;s also an election going on.
