          \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nITS Director Aaron Kostyu reminded everyone Microsoft is ending support for XP.\r\nThe county’s hardware (55 of them, at least)\r\nis so old nothing else will run on it,\r\nso they have to buy new hardware to run a newer operating system.\r\nPlus they’re upgrading their CAD computers.\r\nMax cost would be $99,762.04, but they’re getting a lease payment\r\ndeal that is more like 80% of that, plus after three years they\r\ncan roll over to still newer hardware if they choose.\r\n

          \r\nThere were some questions from Commissioner Demarcus Marshall,\r\nmostly about how new would be the equipment purchased.\r\nAnswer: typically the county buys the newest and best so\r\nthey can stretch out ownership longer.\r\nBut this time they’ve lowered the specs to fit 25 extra machines\r\nin the purchase.\r\nAnd yes there will be training for the new OS.\r\n

          \r\nCommissiner Raines wanted to be assured they’re spread out among\r\nnumerous departments.\r\nYes, oldest first.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

          1. \r\n\r\nBid for Emergency By-Pass Pump<\/a>\r\n\"Bid<\/a>\r\n

            \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nUtilities Director Mike Allen said they’d gotten only one bid\r\nfor an 8-inch bypass pump,\r\nfor $37,728.\r\nStaff requested Commission approve the purchase.\r\n

            \r\nCommissioner Crawford Powell wondered whether it should\r\nbe a capital expense or from SPLOST.\r\nCouldn’t hear the answer.\r\n

            \r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know the location.\r\nAnswer: it’s a mobile pump that goes on a trailer.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

          2. \r\n\r\nReports-County Manager<\/a>\r\n\"Reports<\/a>\r\n

            1. \r\n\r\nAnnexation and Rezoning Application received by the City of Hahira<\/a>\r\n

              \r\nApplicants are Fred Wetherington and Laurence Nelson,\r\nfor five parcels totaling\r\n66.1 acres between\r\nHagen Bridge Road and Highway 122,\r\nso they can get city of Hahira water and sewer services.\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport was concerned that if this development\r\nwere brought to the county instead the county would insist on paving\r\nHagen Bridge Road first, so that could be a point of opposition to\r\nthe annexation request.\r\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard said to note that this property\r\nis next to the previous Hahira annexation.\r\nCommissioners wanted to know who was initiating the annexation.\r\nAnswer: apparently Laurence Nelson.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

            2. \r\n\r\nWeather<\/a>\r\n

              \r\nSome reports on status of roads, bridges, and such after the recent rains.\r\nEmergency Management Director Ashley Tye said the Little River and the Withlacoochee River were still high,\r\nand the Withlacoochee River was expected to stay high due to water\r\nstill coming down from Adel.\r\nBut none of the levels were as high as last year about this time,\r\nso there’s no likelihood of housing flooding.\r\nTye mentioned the Army Corps of Engineers flooding study,\r\nsaying that thus far damming one area would likely contribute\r\nto flooding in another area.\r\nHe also mentioned making sure before someone builds a house\r\nwhere the currently-known flood line might be.\r\n

              \r\nChairman Bill Slaughter said he’d been in meetings\r\nwith the Corps, esp. their Silver Jackets, and much\r\nof the issue was water from upstream beyond Lowndes County,\r\nwhich would require funding to study.\r\nHe said it would require addressing as a region.\r\n

              \r\nCounty Engineer Mike Fletcher said the Shiloh Road bridge\r\nover Franks Creek was closed, but the Morven Road bridge was open, and they were watching several others.\r\n

              \r\nPublic Works Director Robin Cumbus said they survived,\r\n and while all roads were open, it would take about three weeks\r\nto completely recover.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
