\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe\r\n\r\nKLVB presentation<\/a> told us up to three states dump in\r\nthe Pecan Row Landfill in Lowndes County,\r\nfor which the county gets some unspecified amount of tipping fees,\r\nwhich go to fund KLVB.\r\nAn appointment to\r\nKLVB<\/a> was added to the agenda,\r\nalthough nobody deigned to reveal who was “that individual that has\r\nrequested to serve on that board”.\r\nThe\r\n\r\nHomeland Security grant application<\/a> turned out to be for defibrillators.\r\n

              \r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nSheriff’s office would act as grant administator for a\r\n$200,000 grant through\r\nthe governor’s office of highway safety, funded by the National\r\nHighway and Safety Administration, for addressing highway safety issues.\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know if this would cover some of\r\nthe devices for new vehicles.\r\nAnswer from County Manager: “I don’t think so.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

              \r\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard said it was a request from \r\nEMA Director Ashley Tye to apply for a grant to\r\nfund nine automated external defibrillators\r\nto install in nine locations, such as “this building”,\r\nCity Hall, and local libraries.\r\n

              \r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall asked how much the grant was for.\r\nAnswer: $18,467.\r\n

              \r\nMy question is: why did he have to ask?\r\nApparently it’s not just the public that doesn’t know what\r\nthe Commission is being asked to vote on: sometimes it’s the Commissioners, too.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

                \r\nOur funding comes from the landfill….\r\nThis is a tipping fee that is not part of the general budget;\r\nit is a separate budget.\r\nThe owners of this landfill charge tipping fees for every state that dumps there.\r\nUp to three states dump in that landfill.\r\nOf that percentage they give the host county, which is the Lowndes County,\r\none dollar of that,\r\nand that’s what our budget is comprised of.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

                \r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWhat percentage?\r\nWhich three states?\r\nHow much more\r\n\r\ncoal ash from Tennessee<\/a> has ADS accepted into that landfill?\r\nHow many more\r\n\r\ntoxic PCBs<\/a>?\r\nHow much more\r\n\r\nwastewater from Superfund sites<\/a>?\r\nAll just uphill from our Withlacoochee River?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

                \r\nThe rest of his presentation had numbers and information that made sense,\r\nsuch as that in KLVB’s fiscal year 2013,\r\n

                \r\nfor every budget dollar, a value of $3.48 in volunteer hours and\r\nin-kind services was produced.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
