\r\nThe City of Valdosta Utilities Department has been working\r\ndiligently on a number of wastewater improvements.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nSince 1992, the city has received $179 million in Special Purpose\r\nLocal Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds and invested in capital\r\nimprovement projects (CIP). During the same timeframe, the city has\r\nexpended $167 million for water\/wastewater projects from SPLOST\r\nproceeds, system revenues, bonds, and Georgia Environmental Finance\r\nAuthority (GEFA) loans.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nOn November 5, 2013, the SPLOST VII was approved by voters and is\r\nexpected to generate about $150 million, of which Valdosta will\r\nreceive an estimated $80 million. Nearly 70 percent of the funding\r\nwill be dedicated to wastewater projects, which is $55.4 million.\r\nOver the next 4 years, projects that will be funded by SPLOST,\r\nsystem revenues, GEFA loans, etc. include:\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nThe first details on the that page are for the Force Main Project,\r\nwhich is the one that should fix\r\n\r\nSewage into the Withlacoochee again \u2013WCTV<\/a>:\r\n

\r\nOther details include for\r\nrelocation of the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP),\r\nsmoke testing of 300 miles of sewer lines,\r\nannual sewer manhole replacement or rehabilitation,\r\nand\r\npump station replacement, rehabilition, and emergency gennerators.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n

\r\nThe new WWTP will be uphill from the old one, where it should not flood.\r\n

\r\nNo doubt everybody would like all this to be fixed yesterday,\r\nbut it is being fixed.\r\n
