\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThese are the fourteen items he promised\r\n\r\ntwo weeks ago<\/a> at the SpectraBusters panel at VSU:\r\n\r\nSabal Trail will be expected to adhere and honor all Lowndes County Ordinances \u2013Bill E Slaughter, JR to FERC<\/a>, 10 April 2014.\r\nI thank Chairman Slaughter for making that statement to FERC.\r\n

\r\nDespite his apparent refusal to speak on behalf of all the citizens\r\nof the county\r\n\r\nafter the 24 February 2014 Commission meeting<\/a>,\r\nhe did actually say his ecomment to FERC was \r\n“on the behalf of the Commission and Citizens of Lowndes County”,\r\nand that he expects Sabal Trail to follow all Lowndes County ordinances,\r\nplus\r\n\r\nhe supports Colquitt County’s request for a minimum depth requirement<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nWhile his statement doesn’t go nearly as far as many including me would\r\nhave liked, it is a step beyond what I at least expected.\r\nIt’s certainly several steps beyond his first statement\r\n\r\n25 June 2013<\/a> in which he seemed to disclaim all responsibility\r\nabout the pipeline.\r\nIt’s also a big step beyond\r\n\r\nthe Spectra sales pitch at the 9 December 2013 Work Session<\/a>\r\nand the\r\nuncritical forwarding by the county of Spectra’s PR answers to citizen questions<\/a>.\r\nWe’ve since seen much smaller Gilchrist County, FL show how to interrogate a pipeline company<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nMaybe next we’ll see some of the other things Lowndes County (or any county) can do,\r\nsuch as Carol Singletary’s request for citizen input into\r\n\r\nwhat the county attorneys of Lowndes, Brooks, Colquitt, and Dougherty\r\nhave been discussing<\/a>,\r\nand\r\n\r\npass some ordinances such as for minimum horizontal distance,\r\nlike Mario Bartoletti suggested<\/a>.\r\nOr ask for\r\n\r\nprofit sharing like Tom Hochschild suggested<\/a>,\r\nor \r\ncheck our work about the pipeline like Gretchen Quarterman suggested<\/a>.\r\nOr help educate the public using materials such as\r\n\r\nDanielle Jordan provided<\/a>,\r\nor \r\ntalk to the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) about\r\nguidance for safety procedure implementation<\/a>\r\nas suggested by the National Transportation Safety Board.\r\n

\r\nOh, and the Lowndes County Commission could pass a resolution\r\nopposing the pipeline coming into the county.\r\n

\r\nMeanwhile, thanks to Chairman Slaughter for a good step forward.\r\n
