\r\nA non-competitive no-RFP un-explained change order,\r\n\r\nthis time for Val Del Road<\/a>, on the agenda for the Lowndes County Commission.\r\nWould you like to know why county staff doesn’t want to go out for\r\ncompetitive bids before spending your tax money?\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWe can guess it’s about that\r\n\r\nshoulder paving<\/a>\r\nthey\r\njust approved\r\n\r\n$949,493.85 for to Scruggs Company<\/a>.\r\nBut why should we have to guess if that’s it and why they need a change order for a million dollar project\r\nat the very next Commission meeting?\r\n

\r\nWe’d be able to see why if the board packets were online with the agenda,\r\nas happens in many metropolitan areas, such as\r\nLeon County, Florida<\/a>,\r\nor\r\nGlynn County, Georgia<\/a>,\r\nor\r\n\r\nRichmond County, Georgia<\/a>.\r\nOur own Lowndes County Board of Education\r\n\r\noften links board packet items in with its agenda<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nWhile much smaller Glynn County puts video of its County Commission\r\nand both of its Planning Commissions online,\r\nLowndes County is too concerned about\r\n\r\n“the expense”<\/a> of web hosting\r\nto even put the agendas and minutes of its Planning Commission online,\r\nnevermind the board packets.\r\nIt’s curious how\r\n\r\nNash County, North Carolina<\/a> puts its agendas and minutes online\r\nfor many local boards,\r\nwhile much smaller\r\nEffingham County, Georgia<\/a>\r\nputs its board packets online, but Lowndes, twice Effingham’s size, can’t.\r\nOr won’t.\r\n

\r\nMaybe Lowndes County’s new\r\n\r\nturnkey government website service<\/a> can fix this.\r\nI bet it can technically.\r\nThe question is: will the County Commission let it?\r\n
